Scouts across the area are in for a sweet treat—literally. Camp Warren Levis has been selected to pilot its most delicious adventure badge yet: the S’more Fun Adventure because what’s scouting without setting marshmallows on fire and arguing over the "perfect" golden brown?
This badge is expected to quickly become the hottest (and stickiest) new trend. "S’mores are an essential part of every camping trip, right up there with mosquito bites and the infamous red slushies," said the Program Director. "So, we figured, why not make an adventure out of it?"
To earn the Adventure Loop or Pin, Scouts must prove their s’mores-making prowess through a series of rigorous (and delicious) challenges. Below are the official—and slightly gooey—requirements:
1. Fire Safety & Cooking Basics:
- Demonstrate how to safely build, maintain, and extinguish a campfire without turning it into an accidental signal flare.
- Explain the best way to roast a marshmallow without dropping it in the fire, setting it ablaze, or launching it into someone’s hair.
2. S’mores History & Ingredients:
- Research the ancient and noble origins of s’mores. (Okay, maybe not ancient, but at least dig up when humans decided campfire snacks needed more sugar.)
- Identify and explain the core ingredients: graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows, and, for some reason, an uncanny ability to make a huge mess.
3. Perfecting the Roast:
- Master the different techniques for roasting a marshmallow: golden brown, lightly toasted, or "Oops, I dropped it into the flames again."
- Analyze how temperature and roasting methods affect the flavor and texture. Bonus points if you can get it just right without needing a fire extinguisher.
4. Creative S’mores Challenge:
- Invent and prepare three unique variations of s’mores using alternative ingredients. (Bacon s’mores? Peanut butter s’mores? The possibilities are endless—and slightly concerning.)
- Share your creations with fellow scouts and accept their inevitable food critiques like a true campfire chef.
5. Leave No Trace & Cleanup:
- Properly dispose of all wrappers, burnt marshmallow bits, and that one melted piece of chocolate you accidentally sat on.
- Explain why it’s important to respect nature and not leave behind sticky graham cracker crumbs as evidence of your sugary adventures.
The first few Scout leaders and parents in the pilot program have applauded the new adventure, saying it combines crucial life skills with an obvious love for snacks.
"It’s the perfect blend of outdoor education and dessert," said a local Cubmaster. "Plus, I get to ‘supervise’ taste tests."
With excitement (and sugar levels) rising, the S’mores Fun Adventure is expected to become a favorite among Cub Scouts. Get ready for a new generation of marshmallow-roasting experts—and plenty of chocolate-covered smiles.
