Georgia Southern University's Kirsten Smith '26 was interviewed by the Peach Tree Times, discussing her experiences academically and on the IHSA Equestrian Team.

β€œI was welcomed onto the team freshman year despite the late start. Being on the team helped me find most of my friends here. I even met my roommate through the Equestrian Team. A lot of the members chose Georgia Southern because of the incredible opportunity to be part of this sport,” Smith said.

πŸ… The most prestigious award given to a Sweet Briar student, the Presidential Medal is presented to a senior who has demonstrated exemplary achievement in a number of areas, including service, leadership and athletic fitness and achievement.

Evans competed on the Sweet Briar IHSA team in Novice and graduated this year.

West Texas A&M University Alum Maggie Murphy has been the Head Coach of Colorado State University’s Horse Judging Team since early 2025, and is also now the Head Coach for the Ranch Horse Team.

πŸ† She was a top-10 finalist in horsemanship at the IHSA National Championship from 2015 to 2018 while competing for WTAMU, and she placed in the top 10 at multiple horse judging competitions. After graduating in 2018, she served as an assistant coach for WTAMU’s nationally recognized equestrian and horse-judging teams while earning her Ph.D. in agricultural systems.
