Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation

Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation At 27, Kyle’s life was cut short. He died from an overdose in a Baltimore hotel room on March 7, 2009, the first night of being discharged from his treatment.

PROVIDING HOPE AND HEALING TO THOSE WHO SERVE
We are committed to finding the very best tools and programming for veterans and first responders to help them restore their lives after overcoming trauma. United States Army Private First Class Kyle Marshall Farr, of the 240th Quartermaster Unit SSA Platoon which supported the 169th Support Battalion during Operation Iraqi Freedom was an infantryman.

When he returned home, he was treated for Post Traumatic Stress and diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury at both Walter Reed and Perry Point VA Hospital in Maryland. He was laid to rest in Hamilton, VA. where he spent most of his childhood. Born out of tremendous grief and a determined desire to help other veterans, his mother, Leslie Mayne, along with her family and friends determined to honor Kyle’s memory and service to his country by seeking better outcomes for other returning veterans. The Race for A Soldier in Gig Harbor, WA. was created in 2011 and the beginning of a movement that is bringing hope and healing for our veterans, helping them make peace with their past and develop programs that foster “post-traumatic growth.”

Now, we proudly deliver Warrior PATHH (Progressive, Alternative Training for Helping Heroes) Programming in the Pacific Northwest, and are excited about the next 15 years of growth ahead of us! PTSD is only half of the story. Post-traumatic growth can be the whole story! Swipe to learn what that means and why it changes everything →

Growth after trauma is real, it is backed by decades of research, and it is possible for you. At the Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation, our Warrior PATHH program along with our other workshops and resources was built on this science to give veterans and first responders the tools to make peace with the past and start dreaming again.

You deserve to live a great life! 🌱

For the person who thinks they are too far gone:

You are not broken. You have just never been given the training to struggle well.

One of our Warrior PATHH Guides, Sara Kellerman, has walked this road herself. She is not here to coddle you. Nobody at PATHH is. This is not clinical. This is training, and warriors understand training.

If you are sitting on the fence, if you are not sure you deserve it, if you are not sure it will work for you, our message is simple: hit submit. Show up. We're here for you 🤝

Why partner with us? Partnering with us means more lives in our local community and beyond SAVED!

Ryan Forstrom of Subaru of Puyallup shares why the Harnish Auto Family has shown up for the Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation for over 14 years, and what keeps them coming back.

When his team saw firsthand the difference that events like Race for a Soldier make in funding Warrior PATHH, they were all in. This is what it looks like when a community decides that our veterans and first responders deserve better. 🇺🇸

Speaking of... Race for a Soldier registration is OPEN and numbers are growing! 🏃‍♂️

Thank you so much to all of our partners and special thanks Subaru of Puyallup and the Harnish Auto Family!

You were not made to carry it alone, and you are not too broken for community! 🫶

Since 9/11, four times as many service members and veterans have died by su***de than in combat. First responders face the same silent crisis, statistically more likely to die by their own hand than in the line of duty. The VA estimates 17 veterans die by su***de every single day. These numbers break our hearts and they are exactly why the Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation exists.

The stigma around asking for help has cost too many lives. There is another way, and we want to walk next to you. Reach out online or stop by, we want to know you!

Gig Harbor locals, come find us this weekend! ❤️ 💙

We are so excited to be walking in the Maritime Gig Parade and joining the festival after. This year's theme is Stars and Stripes in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, and there is no better way for us to celebrate than alongside the community we love. 🇺🇸

If you see us in the parade, give us a wave! Then come find our booth after and chat with someone from the Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation. We would love to connect, answer questions, and celebrate this nation, this summer, and this incredible small town together.

Can't wait to see you there!

Words that mean everything to us.

Tim Brown, 9/11 firefighter and Tunnels to Towers ambassador, said it better than we ever could. Our heroes deserve to see the light of a beautiful life, and that is exactly why we show up every single day.

And we are beyond honored to announce that Tim will be joining us LIVE in Gig Harbor on November 20th for A Morning of Hope and Remembrance. More details and tickets coming soon. Stay tuned!

Thank you, Tim, for carrying this mission with us.

"Being with people who are experiencing PTSD are the only ones who understand. Every huddle I attended was helpful." ⚓

Hearing directly from the people in our community is what drives everything we do. Heroes Huddle exists because no one should have to carry weight alone. If that's you or you're looking for more support, we'd love to see you tomorrow!

Join us the last Wednesday of each month from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Foundation Headquarters in Gig Harbor. Dinner is always served and all are welcome! 🍕

For many, this weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, a time to gather with family and friends. And while we are grateful for those moments, Memorial Day is not a celebration — it is a day of observance. 🇺🇸

That distinction is not lost on us. We honor those who never returned home, and we hold close the families who continue to carry the weight of that sacrifice every day.

At the Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation, we are reminded daily that service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. Our mission is to help veterans, first responders, and their families transform Post-Traumatic Stress into Post-Traumatic Growth, heal and live a fulfilled life.

And one of the most meaningful ways to honor those who gave everything is to keep showing up for veterans and first responders, strengthening the communities that surround them, and ensuring no one walks alone in the weight they carry.
