The Rotary Club of Gettysburg was happy to support the New Oxford Chamber of Commerce Market on the Square, last Saturday, June 19th. The annual event drew large crowds from across the region in perfect weather conditions. Pictured left to right are Erin Elder, Mike Tumbarello and Victoria Skoog. Rotary has a long-standing tradition of supporting local businesses - Rotary Means Business!

On June 15th, The Rotary Club of Gettysburg distributed the contributions from Rotarians who attended the Multi-District Leadership Conference at the Wyndham Hotel in April in Gettysburg to the non-profit food program, Ruth's Harvest. Ruth’s Harvest Gettysburg is a group of area churches and organizations who provide healthy meals and snacks to food-insecure children. Backpacks of meals are provided to children in the Gettysburg Area School District for the weekends. Volunteer teams, including Rotarians from the Gettysburg club, fill backpacks to be provided to the children by the schools on Friday afternoon. After the weekend, children return the empty bags to the school and the process starts over. Rotarians contributed a total of $775.00 to a special fund set up by The Rotary Club of Gettysburg at the Adams County Community Foundation to enable conference attendees to make tax deductible contributions during the Multi-District Conference.

The Rotary Club of Gettysburg then provided an additional $2,000.00 grant to Ruth's Harvest on June 15th in recognition of the charity's importance to improving the health of the student body and in honor of the Rotarians from across the districts who contributed to the special collection as well as the Rotary Peace Pole initiative to be dedicated at a future date.

Rotary Assistant Governor for District 7390, Carmen Calderon and friend Miguel Lugano joined with The Rotary Club of Gettysburg to support the Adams County Library System’s Ninth Annual Fun Fest at the Recreation Park in Gettysburg on Friday June 12th. The event was a huge success and thanks to all who participated.

Recently the Rotary Club of Gettysburg welcomed Denis Onieal to speak to our club. Denis played an instrumental role in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center; leading emergency management and recovery operations. He provided attendees with many important take aways on how leaders need to be able to collaborate with cross departments and other agencies to respond to adversity. Thank you, Denis!

Rotary Club of Gettysburg in action! Recently, six-members of our Club teamed up to clean-up both sides of Route 30 between the Borough of Gettysburg line and Highway 15. They filled several trash bags with discarded items and broken car parts. No item was too small for this intrepid group to capture. The annual roadside cleanup is a longstanding Rotary Club of Gettysburg tradition. Great job team!

The Rotary Club of Gettysburg rounded out April with the Club's first Rotary Means Business since early 2022. We welcomed guests and Rotary Club members from across our District 7390. Special thanks to Adams County Winery for being the Venue Sponsor and to Adams Electric Cooperative for their generous donation in support of the event.

On Monday May 4th the Rotary Club of Gettysburg welcomed Club member Ben Hansford, Development Director for Shining Stars Therapeutic Riding Program and Dan Brannen, Executive Director of Strawberry Hill.

The Club had the pleasure of awarding each organization a grant in accordance with our legacy scholarship endowment. Shining Stars plans to use these funds to help with the costs of their educational riding program, estimating an additional 57 therapeutic rides will be given. Strawberry Hill plans to use these funds to use these funds to purchase an equipment shed for their educational material at their nature preserve.

The Rotary Club of Gettysburg pays tribute this week to former Rotarian and Immediate Past President, David Kushner who passed on March 28th. We remembered David's service to our community at our April 6th club luncheon through a thoughtful invocation by one of our members. We also remembered David's service to Rotary at the multi-District Rotary Conference on April 19th with a moment of silence. David carried our organization out of the challenging COVID times, and we were blessed to have him at the helm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church 25 W. High St., Gettysburg, PA on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 12:45 pm with reception to follow at Beech Spring Farm, 784 Mount Carmel Rd., Orrtanna, PA. A link to David's service information follows.
