With grateful hearts, we continue to honor the incredible Brester family and the radiant light that was their beloved Sydnee.

Just over four years ago, a tragic plane crash took Sydnee from this world far too soon. But her memory has never dimmed. That smile of hers—the one that could light up any room—still shines brightly in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Though the Brester family misses her terribly every single day, they have managed to turn their deepest heartache into a beautiful example of strength, love, and compassion. Their quiet courage continues to bless our community and keep Sydnee’s legacy alive.

Today we are especially moved to share that Reunited in Heaven – Angel of Hope Children’s Memorial Park has received an anonymous $25,000 grant given in Sydnee’s honor. What a powerful reminder that her light is still touching lives and making a difference.

As another Oregon Trail Days comes to a close, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the incredible volunteers who made SAFE Ride possible. Their willingness to give up two evenings with their own families and friends helped make our community celebration a safer one.

On Friday night, our volunteer drivers gathered at the Oregon Trail Days Office from 9:30 p.m. until calls stopped coming around 1:30 a.m. On Saturday, they were stationed behind the Five Rocks Amphitheater beginning at 7:30 p.m., ready to provide safe rides home for anyone attending the concert or enjoying Oregon Trail Days festivities throughout the evening.

We are also deeply grateful to the law enforcement officers who worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to keep our community safe while supporting our mission. Thank you to Chief Holthus, Captain Rogers, and every member of the Gering Police Department who served during Oregon Trail Days. Thank you to Sheriff Overman and the deputies of the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska State Patrol troopers, and every public safety officer who worked to keep our roads and community safe.

Unfortunately, there were still DUI arrests and at least one traffic accident that we are aware of. We sincerely wish more people knew about SAFE Ride before making the decision to drive. If you believe in this mission, please help us spread the word throughout the year. The more people who know SAFE Ride is available, the more lives we may be able to protect.

Finally, thank you to everyone who called for a ride instead of taking a chance. Choosing a safe ride is a decision that protects not only you, but everyone else on the road. We’re honored that you trusted our volunteers to get you home safely.

To every volunteer, sponsor, law enforcement officer, and community member who supported SAFE Ride this Oregon Trail Days—thank you. Every safe ride matters. Together, we’re building a tradition where celebrating our community also means looking out for one another and making sure everyone gets home safely.

Our founding mother, Melissa Lashley, who lost her daughter Katy in a tragic automobile accident, was honored to accept a generous check for $8,500 on our behalf. Your support means more than we can express — it will directly help us continue our mission of supporting grieving families and honoring our angels.

A Big Congratulations to Tammy Egging Wheeler — Our Angel of Hope Hero! ❤️

We are bursting with pride for our longtime board member, Tammy! This past week, she was the Keynote Speaker at the MADD conference in Lincoln. Fighting back tears, she bravely shared her family’s story with an impactful audience, and four of her biggest supporters — including her husband Barry, who heard her speak for the first time.
Tammy was also chosen to receive The Hero Award from MADD, selected from many nominations. A special thank you to Anna Meier for nominating her, and to Lisa Weborg for making the long trip to support Tammy, along with Anna’s mother Julie Focken — who have all become such important parts of her support system this past year.
Tammy, your courage, strength, and unwavering commitment to turning personal pain into purpose is truly inspiring. Whether you’re speaking at a MADD conference, fighting to prevent drunk driving tragedies, or helping create a sacred space of remembrance and healing through the Angel of Hope Children’s Memorial Park — you are making a profound difference in our community.
