The Gering Merchants are inviting artists of all ages to bring color and creativity to the Gering Civic Plaza during the 2026 Gering Merchants Summer Bash on Saturday, June 6.
The free community event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gering Plaza, located at 1030 N Street in Gering. Chalk artists are encouraged to claim their square beginning at 4 p.m. Competing artists must complete their artwork by 6:30 p.m. for judging.
The Chalk Art Contest is open to all ages, with cash prizes awarded in the 13-and-older division:
• First Place — $125
• Second Place — $50
• Third Place — $25
Younger artists are warmly encouraged to participate for fun and to help transform the Plaza into a colorful community canvas.
Artists will check in onsite to sign up and receive chalk supplies, sponsored by Oregon Trail Creative District and Gering Tourism.
The annual Summer Bash celebration brings together local merchants, entertainment, food vendors, games, bounce houses, and interactive family activities in a lively outdoor setting. This year’s later event hours were selected to allow families to enjoy cooler evening temperatures while spending time together downtown.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, explore downtown businesses, enjoy live entertainment, and experience an evening of creativity and community spirit in the heart of Gering.
Whether participating in the chalk competition or simply enjoying the festivities, Summer Bash offers something for everyone.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
