The Rotary Club of Galena was proud to present a check to Galena Unit School District #120 High School this morning to help furnish its beautiful new school!

Our contribution funded the oversized, padded seating found throughout the hallways and library, creating comfortable, welcoming spaces where students can gather, collaborate, study, and connect.

It is truly an honor to play even a small part in bringing this incredible new learning environment to life. We are excited for the students, teachers, and staff who get to enjoy these wonderful spaces for years to come!

Supporting our schools and investing in the next generation is what Rotary is all about.

Congratulations to Galena High School on this beautiful new chapter! 💙🤍

Did you know local organizations can ask the Rotary Club of Galena for help with volunteers, funds or equipment?

Community grants and service partnerships allow Rotary to strengthen the work already happening throughout Jo Daviess County. The club has supported organizations including the Galena ARC, the Galena & U.S. Grant Museum and many others over the years.

The people closest to a challenge often understand it best. Rotary can help bring additional hands, relationships and resources to the work.

A food pantry shelf may look ordinary. To a family going through a difficult season, it can mean dinner, dignity and one less worry tonight.

The Rotary Club of Galena makes annual contributions to food pantries throughout Jo Daviess County. These gifts support organizations already doing the quiet, essential work of caring for neighbors.

Countywide service is not always loud or visible. Sometimes it looks like making sure help is there when someone needs it most.

Service Above Self is more than Rotary’s motto. It is a way of noticing who needs help—and choosing to respond.

Sometimes it looks like awarding a scholarship. Sometimes it is preserving a historic fort, supporting a food pantry, helping fund a community organization or recognizing a student who refused to give up.

Most often, it looks like ordinary people giving a few hours, sharing a skill or opening a door for someone else.

What does Service Above Self look like in your life? Tell us in the comments.

Every Rotary meeting begins with people gathering around a table. What follows might be a new perspective, an unexpected connection or the beginning of the club’s next project.

Today is the third Friday of October and a Rotary meeting day at the DeSoto House Hotel in Galena. Members hear from a guest presenter, exchange club updates and spend time with others who care deeply about Jo Daviess County.

You do not have to know everything about Rotary to start learning. You only need to be curious about what people can accomplish together.

👏 Six students. Six schools. A wonderful reason to celebrate! Thank you DeSoto House Hotel for providing us with a space and wonderful meal for today’s presentation.

The Rotary Club of Galena is proud to congratulate our Student of the Quarter honorees, representing Warren, Scales Mound, Stockton, East Dubuque, River Ridge and Galena high schools.

It was a pleasure to welcome these students and hear about the qualities that make each of them stand out as they received their certificates. Here are just a few to share:

🌟 Kinsley Jones | Warren CUSD 205
Kinsley never has a bad word to say about anyone! Known for her kindness and someone who is always smiling, she brings a positive presence to her school community.

🌟 Alex Jordan | Stockton High School
Alex continually pushes himself, no matter the goal. His determination and willingness to keep challenging himself make him a deserving honoree.

🌟 Lucas Wurster | River Ridge CUSD #210 Wildcats
Lucas gives his best every day and always looks for ways to improve his skills. His politeness and the way he treats others make him a wonderful classmate.

🌟 Lucas Metz | Galena Unit School District #120
Lucas demonstrates hard work, a positive attitude and a genuine ability to connect with those around him. His stellar grades and the example he sets give his school plenty to celebrate.

🌟 Jade Antonio Manuel | We Are East Dubuque
In her first year at East Dubuque, Jade is already making a positive impression through her strong work ethic and willingness to respond to feedback and grow.

🌟 Anna Plath | Scales Mound School District #211
Involved in FFA and a horse lover, Anna works through challenging situations with compassion and a smile. She is conscientious about her work, considerate of her peers and a great communicator.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to celebrate young people from across our area and cheer them on as they look toward the future.

Congratulations to all six honorees and to the families, teachers and school communities supporting them along the way!

Networking can help you grow a business. Networking with purpose can help an entire community grow.

Rotary brings business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals and community leaders together to exchange ideas, learn from guest speakers and build relationships across Jo Daviess County.

But the connection does not end with a business card. Members turn their relationships and experience into scholarships, fundraisers, grants and service projects.

That is what makes Rotary different: who you meet matters—and so does what you accomplish together.

Did you know Rotary recognizes students not only for where they finish—but for how hard they work to improve?

The Paul Kindig Student of the Quarter Award honors Jo Daviess County sophomores who demonstrate dedication, perseverance and meaningful growth in their academic performance.

There is something powerful about telling a young person, “We noticed that you kept going.” Recognition can become confidence. Confidence can become momentum. And momentum can change a future.
