Saving money and resources, together. CWC volunteer energy coaches are trained to perform comprehensive energy audits/tune-ups on homes.

Our volunteers share behavioral changes residents can make to conserve resources and complete some of the recommended energy-saving measures during the tune-up (such as installing energy-efficient light bulbs and water-saving devices). Since its inception, the CWC has helped over 1,300 low-income homeowners and renters in our community. We have trained over 300 volunteer energy auditors, and have

sparked much-needed dialogue on energy and conservation related issues in area churches, neighborhood associations, and local government.

Did you know that the Community Weatherization Coalition offers a "Do It Yourself" Tune-Up Program?

The Community Weatherization Coalition is looking for program interns for the fall 2026 term!

Interns provide instrumental support to the CWC with restocking home energy tune-up kits, data entry, helping with outreach events, and project management. Make a hands-on difference in Alachua County with the Community Weatherization Coalition and help your neighbors save on their utility bills!

Did you know using a using a ladder can be dangerous? In 2020, there were 161 workplace fatalities from ladders, and 22,710 workplace injuries from ladders (CDC 2024).

Artis (he/him/él) to the Community Weatherization
Coalition team as our new Program Assistant!

He is eager to support the CWC volunteers, staff, and
clients to schedule energy tune-ups. After working on
sustainable agriculture and energy policy in
Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Atlanta, he moved to
Gainesville to complete his MA in Latin American
Studies at the University of Florida. He is currently an
anthropology PhD student at UF. In his free time, Artis
enjoys practicing classical guitar, cooking Jamaican
food, and spending time with friends and family.

We are starting to get into the thick of hot weather, but not all households experience this heat equally. Older homes and those who are lower income may consider the cost of cooling their space before their comfort or safety.

Heat exposure is one of the leading causes of weather-related deaths nationwide (CDC 2026), and yet air conditioning is not required for rentals in Florida.

What can we do to mitigate this?

A free home energy tune-up can help you save an average of 10% on your water and energy use, allowing you to use your energy where you need it most! See the link in bio to apply!

Here is a great start: if leaving for the day, raise your thermostat a few degrees to reduce the amount of energy used to cool an empty space. Every degree you raise your thermostat can save you 4% on your electricity usage!

Did you know that the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank also diverts their waste to hog farmers to keep food waste out of landfills?
