CREATE IN PLACE! 🖊 "Poem Found"

Materials Needed:
stack of old magazines
scissors
glue stick
card stock

Directions ✂️
1. We recommend starting your process intuitively. Spend a good 20 minutes going through magazines to cut words that appeal to you. Look for words that create interesting thoughts or ideas. Make a stack of several selected words, and don’t think too much about whether they relate with one another.
2. Arrange your words into a phrase or phrases that holds meaning to you. Trust your intuition. When ready, begin pasting your words in the middle of the cardstock to make a “poem”.
3. Cut and paste unique parts of the pages from your magazines that add interest to your work. These pieces could be relevant to your poem, or simply add details and create an aesthetic.

CREATE IN PLACE! 🍄

Materials Needed:
-craft paper, cardboard or a table cover to protect work surface
-several pieces of copy paper
-piece of fruit or vegetable of your choice
-small tubes of acrylic paints, 2-3 colors of your choice
-brayer, paint brush or foam brush for application
-illustrator pen

Directions:
1. Start by choosing a piece of fruit or vegetable that you think might make an interesting print. Cut the fruit or vegetable, and note the moisture content. It may need to be blotted or need time to dry out a bit before paint will adhere to it. 🥝
2. To practice printing your item, apply a small amount of acrylic paint to the cut surface and stamp the color side down on a piece of your copy paper. Think about how you might incorporate these images into a pattern and experiment to see how much variety you can introduce while still maintaining an organized structure. You might start by printing in regularly space intervals and in straight rows. Then try changing up the color or introducing a new element.
3. Once you have a good feeling about your design, prepare your colors and start printing on a clean sheet of paper. Fill the entire sheet with your print pattern.
4. Allow paint to dry completely and use illustrator pen to bring out details in the print. 🍊

CREATE IN PLACE! 🌸

Materials Needed:
•A basket or bag
•A pair of scissors or gardening sheers ✂️
•One piece of watercolor paper or cardstock
•Materials from nature such as wildflowers, pinecones, acorns, rocks, leaves, moss, etc.
•Optional: Glue, silk or paper flowers and other natural materials

1. Stepping outside, notice the natural environment around you. You might see grasses, trees, some landscaping using different plants and rocks, and so on. From what is available to you, gather some of those materials in your basket/bag. You can gather from what has fallen on the ground or cut from existing plants around you using your scissors. Fake flowers or other materials are also fine to use for this project.
2. With your materials, begin arranging them on your piece of paper. Using tweezers can help with placing smaller pieces of material. You can create designs such as a mandala, a circle/wreath shape, or a border for a future painting or project. Pictured here is a mandala made with rose petals, leaves, and small pebbles. 🌱
3. Once you’re satisfied with your arrangement, you can begin gluing the materials to the paper piece by piece to finish your artwork, or snap a photo and return the materials to nature by placing them back outside. Either way, we hope you'll share your completed piece with us! 🌿

CREATE IN PLACE 🌱

How to germinate seeds in paper towles! This is a perfect activity to start right now and also for little ones. The process is really quite simple.

Things you will need:

Paper towel – one sheet per seed variety

Plastic baggie – snack size

Water, or a mister. Distilled water is the best if possible.

Marker

The seeds

Once your supplies are assembled, follow the steps below:

1. Moisten the paper towel.
2. Place the seeds on the moist paper towel, with some spacing in between if possible.
3. Gently fold the paper towel a few times so that the seeds are on the inside, and it fits inside the plastic baggie.
4.Using the marker, write the seed variety on the baggie.
5.Place the folded, lightly moist paper towel inside the baggie and seal the baggie.

Check your seeds often to make sure there is no mold on the seeds. In about a week or two, your seeds will have sprouted and they will be ready to be planted in the soil!

Share your seeds and plant photos woth us!
