And finally......my details of last years summary of Rockstar Cocker Rescue.
We saved a total of nearly 120 dogs with 113 going thru the rescue directly and 3 assists (where we had no space but directed a potential adopter towards to get the pup(s) safe into their homes).
At the time of reporting we had 6 cockers in rescue still, with two open and 4 pending adoption.
We carried dogs from 2025 into 2026 - 19, but many of them came in November and December, so carryover from 25 to 26 was expected while they got ready.
The total # if dogs placed into homes was 44 males and 69 females. We had 2 males and 4 females pending placement.
We had ZERO puppies born into rescue which is a huge relief from the years previous. We also had no bonded pairs in 2025.
One cocker was returned to owner.
We lost 3 total dogs to euthanasia last year. Two were in very poor condition coming in and one was a behavioral euthanasia. All are sad and considered losses to our hearts. They all deserved a chance and barely got it but had a person there to love on them until the end.
Of the dogs that came in, we had 100 cockers, and 8 cocker mixes which consisted of 2 cockapoos and 6 cockaliers. 5 others were: a Boykin and 4 cavaliers.
Of the 113 dogs that came in, 78 were mill/breeder releases, 6 were from partner shelters, 6 were from other rescue releases, and 20 were owner surrenders. While we got buried in draining one particular facility we still managed to help out local people in need and a few of our shelter friends who also depend on our experience with the cocker breed.
Our age range of rescue tended to lean to the younger again with aged out puppies and puppies in improper homes, but we also continue our goal of helping the older cockers when we can.
Age under 1 year: 28
Age 1-3 years: 16 with one euth;d behavior
Age 4-6 years: 46 with one euth'd for health
Age 7-10 years: 16
Over 10 years: 7 with one euth'd for health
We took in dogs from the following states:
KS-2, IA-8, IL-12, IN-10, down south-6, and MO was 68
We placed dogs in the following states:
NE-1, IA-15, IL-51, IN-10, OH-4, MI-5, WI-15, MN-3, down south-5. MO-3, ret'd-1 and euth-3.
It was another busy year! An average of 10 dogs a month is twice what we started with as a small rescue group. All of this only happens and works due to the dedicated volunteers in all realms of rescue: the transporters and our connections in MO, our foster homes, drivers and adopters. Also our supporters of donations of all things terrific, that we can utilize with donations, sales and raffles. All of these little pieces of the puzzle coming together to make Rockstar a solid community! Thank you ALL!
