Divinum Auxilium Academy

Divinum Auxilium Academy It is thereby our mission to introduce these pursuits to the child. It is like the sun which appears at dawn or a flower just beginning to bloom.

Divinum Auxilium Academy is a non-profit farm school offering a classical liberal arts education with a Montessori foundation for students ages 2 ½ to 12 yrs old. Saint John Chrysostom has said, "What greater work is there than training the mind and forming the habits of the young?"

Divinum Auxilium - Divine Assistance Academy in Front Royal VirginiaWith this is in mind, we hold with the Church t

hat "...education consists essentially in preparing man for what he must be and for what he must do here below, in order to attain the sublime end for which he was created, it is clear that there can be no true education which is not wholly directed to man's last end, and that in the present order of Providence, since God has revealed Himself to us in the Person of His Only Begotten Son, who alone is 'the way, the truth and the life,' there can be no ideally perfect education which is not Christian education." -- Pope Pius XI Encyclical on Christian Education

Thus, it is our mission to use the means of our educational endeavors to achieve the end of a closer encounter with the Person of Christ. We believe that parents are the primary educators of their children and as such our goal is to support families in their God-given charge by working with and in service to them. We believe that community in the service of one another is an essential component of our Christian calling, that "Love of neighbour, grounded in the love of God, is first and foremost a responsibility for each individual member of the faithful, but it is also a responsibility for the entire ecclesial community at every level: from the local community to the particular Church and to the Church universal in its entirety. As a community, the Church must practise love." -- Pope Benedict XVI Encyclical on Christian Love

As a creature of body and soul, we believe man can best flourish when his work involves both his hands and his intellect. If his heart is formed to seek truth and beauty, man's appreciation of nature and his labor in art, music, agriculture and other practical arts can be a means of raising his soul to Heaven. "All spiritual life begins with a sense of wonder, and nature is a window into that wonder." -- Richard Louv

We believe that our responsibility to children and to childhood is great, that, "... humanity which is revealed in all its intellectual splendor during the sweet and tender age of childhood should be respected with a kind of religious veneration. Education cannot be effective unless it helps a child to open up himself to life." -- Maria Montessori

🎭✨ The stage is set… and something truly special is about to unfold. ✨🎭

There’s a certain kind of magic that only happens when children step into a story—and bring it to life with their whole hearts. Pollyanna is exactly that kind of magic. 💛

From lively scenes to tender moments, our students have poured weeks of effort, creativity, and joy into this production—and it shows in every smile, every line, and every perfectly-timed moment on stage.

If you’ve ever needed a reminder that goodness, hope, and a little “gladness” can change everything… this is it.

Bring your family, invite your friends, and come experience an afternoon (or evening!) that will leave you smiling long after the curtain falls. 🌼

Spring at St. Joseph the Just isn’t slow or predictable - and the past few weeks prove it.

During the Easter Octave, many of our families gathered for the Divinum Auxilium pig slaughter - a tradition rooted in skill, stewardship, and community. It’s not every day you see boys learning, firsthand, where food comes from and what it means to work with care, respect, and gratitude. It was a powerful reminder that formation happens just as much around the work of our hands as it does in the classroom.

And then - out into the wild.

Our high school young men took on nearly 30 miles of rugged terrain in their recent backpacking trip. The challenge was real: rock climbing and rappelling under the heat of the sun, limited water sources that required teamwork and sacrifice, and the kind of physical demand that tests both strength and resolve. They carried not only their gear, but responsibility for one another - hauling water, pushing forward, and rising to the occasion together.

What stands out most isn’t just what they did - but who they are becoming.

Their reflections showed a depth of maturity, brotherhood, and a growing awareness of God’s presence in both the difficulty and the beauty of these experiences.

Hard work. Real challenge. Meaningful tradition. This is formation in action.
We are proud of these young men - and grateful for a community that makes it possible.

We’re back from Easter break, and you can feel the difference.

Fresh energy. Open doors. Classes spilling out onto the porch.
Spring has arrived at SES, and it shows. 🌿

And yes… the countdown to the Spring play is officially on.

On the trail…
Our high school students set off on their Outdoor Leadership Trip with Mrs. Schmiedicke-nearly 15 miles of hiking over three days.

Before they left, Fr. Tom gave them a blessing -
a moment of calm and purpose before the adventure began.

Back on campus…
Middle school students have been soaking up spring in their own way:

Alleluia! He is Risen! 🌷✝️

We hope all of our families had a blessed and holy Easter break. As we return, the joy of the Easter season continues all the way to the Ascension. It has been especially beautiful to hear our students praying the Regina Caeli together before lunch—such a fitting way to mark this joyful season.

📜 Classroom Highlights
Grammar and PreGrammar students kicked things off with a visit to the Freedom 250 Exhibits, where they signed the Declaration of Independence and saw influential figures like Monsignor Fulton Sheen and St. Katharine Drexel.

♟️ Grammar wrapped up their chess season with a tournament—congratulations to Matthew Rice (Grammar) and Charles Nelson (PreGrammar)!

🐍 PreGrammar and Lower Elementary students welcomed a special visitor, Cheyenne the ball python, while Lower Elementary students dove into a detailed study of arachnids, even creating their own fact books.

🌱 Farm Life
Families gathered for a successful pig harvest this past weekend—thank you to all who helped make it such a smooth and efficient day! Auction items will be ready soon.

🐣 And new life is already on the way! Eggs incubated since Holy Week are beginning to hatch, with a variety of chicks arriving soon. Chicks will be available for $5 each.

The 7th and 8th grade boys of St. Joseph the Just School for Boys completed their most challenging backpacking trip to date the weekend of Palm Sunday - facing some of the toughest conditions yet. 🏕️

Over 26 miles, they carried full packs through steady rain, climbed significant elevation, crossed swollen streams, and camped in sub-freezing temperatures. Through it all, they persevered - growing in resilience, brotherhood, and confidence - emerging stronger both individually and as a group. 💪

We are especially proud of these young men, and grateful for the leadership of senior John Paul Hill, who joined the trip as a student leader.

They entered Holy Week having given their all, and now, during Easter break, carry with them a well-earned sense of accomplishment, while our upper school students look ahead to their own adventure when classes resume. ✨

Just before Easter break, our middle school girls set out on a backpacking adventure they won’t soon forget. 🌄🎒

From hiking miles to reach their campsite to gathering around the campfire in song and laughter, this outdoor leadership experience was about so much more than time in nature. It was an opportunity to grow in resilience, teamwork, and confidence.

Along the trail, the girls learned to encourage one another, carry both their packs and shared responsibilities, and find joy in the simplicity of God’s creation. Moments of challenge became moments of strength. Moments of quiet became moments of reflection.

At St. Edith Stein School for Girls, we are committed to forming young women who are not only academically strong, but also courageous, faith-filled leaders. Experiences like this remind us that some of the most meaningful lessons happen far beyond the classroom.

We are so proud of these girls and the way they continue to grow—together. 💛

✨ At St. Edith Stein School for Girls, our students have been making the most of every moment, and they're ready for the final stretch before Easter.

Some of our highlights are:
📚 Latin students took our very first National Latin Exam—well done, ladies!
🥧 Pre-Algebra celebrated Pi Day with hands-on learning, calculating the circumference of everyday objects (and some delicious round foods!)
📖 Upper School students conducted research for their novel analysis papers at the St. John the Evangelist Library at Christendom College
🩰 9th and 10th graders enjoyed a visit to Classical Barre

🏆 Congratulations to our Theology Bowl team—Mary Lane, Cecilia Hill, and Regina Grundman - who impressed with three perfect rounds of answers!

As we look ahead, we prepare to observe the Solemnity of the Annunciation and pray for our middle school students as they embark on their Outdoor Leadership weekend backpacking trip.

Our Lady, Queen of Heaven, pray for us!
