Wilson Morrison Elementary School) who spent two hours picking up eight bags of trash this past Saturday along the Royal Shenandoah Greenway and Commerce Avenue. Attention volunteers:

Riverside Clean-Up Event This Thursday, 4/25, at Shenandoah River State Park

Come be a Friend and a Champion of your local State Park and of Virginia's most historic and prized river. As part of the Shenandoah Riverkeeper's "Trash Free Shenandoah" campaign, the Friends of the Shenandoah River State Park are hosting a riverside clean up at the State Park in Bentonville, Virginia on Thursday, April 25th.

There will be two sessions: 10am to noon, and 12-noon to 2pm. Come for an hour, two hours, or more. Supplies and snacks will be provided, and we have a modest supply of commemorative t-shirts to hand out to our volunteers. Bring sun protection, weather-appropriate clothing, and a spirit of good cheer and stewardship.

Everything we accomplish will be shared with the Shenandoah Riverkeeper, and will contribute to the watershed-wide, Trash-Free Shenandoah community effort. This event is a good fit for adults and for trail-comfortable teens, 12 and up. If you have questions, call Dave Brotman at 540-252-9545.

We are incredibly excited to showcase a really fun Earth Day project that has come to fruition over the past month. Spearheaded by John Brishcar, the idea was to have local school groups illustrate Earth Day themes on grocery bags and flyers attached to pizza boxes, so that for several days leading up to the big weekend our community members would be seeing “advertisements” for Earth Day in the form of fun drawings and nature-focused messaging.

The bags and flyers turned out beautifully and just in time to build some fervor around the upcoming Earth Day celebration this coming Sunday from 10am-3pm in downtown Front Royal. There will be over 50 conservation, environmental, and outdoor recreation represented at the event; be sure to swing by the Anti-Litter Council’s booth for some goodies and handouts!

A big thank you to all of the schools involved with this Earth Day art project, including: Leslie Fox Keyser Elementary, Ressie Jeffries Elementary, E. Wilson Morrison Elementary, Skyline Middle School, and Warren County Middle School. And to the local businesses for featuring this artwork: Anthony’s Pizza, Castiglia’s Restaurant, Martin’s, and C&C Frozen Treats. Thank you!!!
