📱 Disconnect to Reconnect: The 30-Day Digital Detox Challenge
What could you do with one hour less on your phone?
From October 1–31, the Alpha Mu Tau Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa invites everyone, everywhere, to take the challenge. Students, families, friends, sister chapters—any age, any location. You’re invited! 🌎
On at least 30 days during October:
📵 Spend one hour less on your phone or tablet. Cut back on whatever usually fills that hour: social media, gaming, email, work, podcasts, streaming, or something else.
🤝 Give that time to someone. Talk face-to-face, listen without checking your screen, share a meal, visit a friend, or help someone out. If you live too far apart to meet, make a voice-only call and give that person your full attention.
✍️ Handwrite a reflection for 5–10 minutes. What did you do with your hour? How did it feel? Did you notice anything about your mood, confidence, communication, or relationships? Be honest—there’s no “right” result.
Our Honors in Action research explores how digital communication habits shape relationships and our confidence in connecting with others. Now we’re putting that question into practice, one hour and one real conversation at a time.
Invite someone to join you—even someone across the world! Miss a day? Pick it back up tomorrow. October gives you 31 days to complete 30.

Some of the best ideas happen when student leaders from different campuses come together.

We loved spending the day with Omicron Psi from Grayson College and Alpha Theta Alpha from Oklahoma City Community College for a joint officer training at Collin College’s McKinney Campus. Through team activities, discussion, and leadership development, we were reminded that every chapter brings unique strengths, perspectives, and experiences to the table.

Thank you for making the trip and sharing the day with us. Here’s to a year of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship. 💙💛
