Nick has endured a barrage of medical issues. As a thriving three-sport athlete enjoying his senior year of high school, he suffered an ACL injury, which led to severe hip pain. Further investigation revealed a tumor and a diagnosis of osteosarcoma, and he eventually had surgery to remove his right hip and leg. Enter Wishes & More and the promise of a Hawaiian vacation and a chance to relax in the sun, snorkel and fish! But then another set-back. After his trip was booked, routine scans showed a nodule in his lung resulting in surgery. Unfortunately, they weren't able to simply remove the tumor, the surgeon determined that it was necessary to remove the entire lobe. However, they remained hopeful that their travel plans would go on undeterred, and after docs gave the thumbs up - just one month post-surgery- Nick found himself in beautiful Maui! They spent much of their time in the water and snorkeling soon became a favorite pastime. They also tried parasailing, attended a luau and Nick loved trying all the Hawaiian foods – from banana bread and macadamia ice cream to sushi, pork, and poke bowls. Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa underwrote the entire stay for Nick and his family and provided priority seating at the luau - we can’t thank them enough for this incredible gift! Additionally, as Nick’s wish was in process, we also received a generous offer of 3rd row tickets to Morgan Wallen at US Bank Stadium for Nick to enjoy a night out - John Pitzl, thank you for providing this incredible opportunity! It truly takes a village to grant the wishes we do for local families, and we are overcome by the outpouring of generosity that helped us grant Nick’s much-deserved wish experience!
