🪷Narika is deeply grateful to Keerthana Kalaivanan and her mother, Jayanthi, for hosting a magnificent Bharatanatyam Arangetram on September 19, 2026, in Saratoga.
Narika’s Executive Director and Director of Programs were delighted to be a part of this beautiful event.

This milestone marked the culmination of years of Keerthana Kalaivanan’s artistic dedication and discipline, bringing our community together for an unforgettable celebration of classical dance. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Guru Smt. Rani Sunil, founder and Artistic Director of the School of Indian Dance, whose guidance, vision, and commitment shaped this beautiful journey. Even more inspiring, Keerthana and Jayanthi chose to dedicate this momentous occasion to supporting survivors of domestic violence. Through their advocacy and community outreach, this remarkable mother‑daughter duo raised an incredible $8,000 in client aid for Narika. Their generosity helps ensure essential safety, resources, and dignity for local survivors while shining a vital light on domestic violence awareness.

Thank you, Keerthana and Jayanthi, for exemplifying youth leadership, compassion, and philanthropic activism. We honor your generosity and unwavering dedication to strengthening our community. 💜

Last week Narika staff and Board attended City Council meetings for the City of Fremont, City of Dublin and the City of Pleasanton to stand in solidarity with the honorable City Council members and Mayors who proclaimed October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month - and presented Narika members with official Proclamations, commemorating our commitment to serving survivors in our local communities.

This visible and voluble support is vital for assuring survivors we stand with them, always. And for reaffirming our collective stand against domestic violence.

Thank you City Of Pleasanton CA City of Dublin, California City of Fremont CA for your solidarity and the proclamations.

Also, our heartfelt congratulations to other community organizations who were in attendance and were also recognized.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Fremont’s Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Candlelight Vigil yesterday evening. Your presence made the gathering truly meaningful.

We are grateful to Mayor Salwan, Councilmember Kathy Kimberlin, our Co-hosts, Maitri, Save and Nisa, our advocates, volunteers, and community members who came together to stand with survivors and reaffirm our shared commitment to ending domestic violence.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who courageously shared their thoughts, songs, poetry, and dance. Your voices and expressions brought so much meaning to the evening, reminding us of the power of coming together, listening to one another, and creating space for healing and hope.

Every candle lit, every story shared, and every person who showed up was a reminder that no one should have to face domestic violence alone.

Last evening was a beautiful reflection of what community can be when we stand together with compassion, courage, and a shared purpose.

Thank you for being part of this community and for continuing to stand with survivors. The work does not end with one evening or one month. Together, we keep showing up, speaking up, and working toward a future free from violence.

Together, we are the light that keeps hope alive.

Domestic violence is often surrounded by misconceptions about what abuse looks like, why someone stays, what a survivor “should” do, and who can experience it.

These myths can make it harder for survivors to be believed, supported, or even recognize what they are experiencing as abuse.

The truth is that domestic violence is about power and control, and it can take many forms. There is no single “typical” survivor, relationship, or story. Leaving is not always simple, and the responsibility for the abuse always lies with the person choosing to cause harm.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, take a moment to challenge the myths, learn the realities, and listen without judgment. Understanding the truth is one small but important step toward creating communities where survivors feel safe to seek support.

This weekend Narika attended the Fremont Police Department Public Safety Fair in Fremont. It was a wonderful community gathering and we are grateful to the organizers for creating such a welcoming space for our community to connect, learn, and access valuable resources.

Narika was delighted to be part of this wonderful community event and have the opportunity to connect with families, share information about our services, and talk about the importance of building safe, healthy, and violence-free, the event brought so many community resources together in one place.

Thank you Mayor Salwan and Councilmember Kathy Kimberlin for stopping by our booth and meeting the Narika team.

TW: references to types of violence

💜Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time for all of us to be educated that harm happens to survivors in many ways - and survivors face multiple issues simultaneously, adding to their trauma, overwhelm and grief. Therefore the path to safety is complex and very difficult.

💜As a community, it is very important we understand this. Domestic violence impacts all strata of our society and has a devastating effect on survivors’ physical, mental, emotional, financial and spiritual being.

💜 October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month - it is a month when we reaffirm our commitment to ending domestic violence and to stand with survivors, always. It is also a time to celebrate the power of community, and honor all the advocates, volunteers, survivors, donors, partners, and sister organizations who show up every day to create safer and more compassionate communities.

Everyone wonders how they can make a difference. We invite you to think of four simple acts:
- Volunteer with us
- Donate to support survivors
- Engage with our community events
- Amplify our message and helpline

We especially invite you to join our Annual Walk & Vigils this month: on Wednesday, October 7 in Fremont and Saturday, Oct 24 in San Ramon.

Let us begin this month drawing strength from one another and turning awareness into action 💜

We successfully completed another powerful SAPHAL workshop last Sunday.

The session was facilitated by Sangita Biswas, LMFT from Lotus Family Therapy and was supported by Narika advocates.

SAPHAL is Narika’s parenting education initiative, focused on helping families build healthier relationships, strengthen communication, and create safer, more supportive environments for children. Through education and conversations around healthy relationships and preventing domestic violence, SAPHAL is part of Narika’s broader effort to break cycles of violence across generations and build stronger communities.

We are also super excited to say we will be offering a new and unique SAPHAL for dads/male caregivers first week of December. Watch this space for more information. Contact us at [email protected] if you or anyone you know may like to attend this!
