Jeff and Lisa Greig, Doug and Ingrid Greig (Greig Christmas Tree Farm) and Alan Binger (Hidden Pines Christmas Tree Farm) presented a wreath making session today in the Ohio Proud Kitchen at the new Ohio Agriculture Center during the Ohio State Fair.

They gave an entertaining and educational demonstration of how tree farms make wreaths and also gave some pointers for how attendees could make live evergreen decorations for themselves. Thank you for representing the Ohio Christmas Tree industry!

Congratulations to Hidden Pines Christmas Tree Farm of Clyde (Sandusky County) who took the top two spots among the 20 trees exhibited in the 2026 Ohio State Fair Christmas Tree contest. The Grand Champion was a Concolor Fir with a Colorado Blue Spruce taking home the Reserve Champion honors.

Timbuk Farms and Greig Tree Farms also took home ribbons in the competition. Special thanks to our team of judges which included extension staff from The Ohio State University as well as Ohio Department of Agriculture Director, Brian Baldridge.

Hidden Pines will have the distinction of placing a tree in the Ohio Governor’s mansion this Christmas season.

Join us at the Ohio State Fair on Friday, July 31 as OCTA members demonstrate wreath making in the brand new Ohio Proud Kitchen inside the Ohio Agriculture Center. The demonstration begins at 4:00 pm!

It's Ohio State Fair time! The annual OCTA Christmas Tree contest will be held on Monday, July 27. Trees must be delivered to the new Ohio Agriculture Center inside the fairgrounds by 11:00 a.m. The contest will begin at noon. Please contact Valerie Graham at the OCTA office to let her know you will be entering a tree (or trees). There are classes for Pines, Firs and Spruces. The grower displaying the Grand Champion tree will have the honor of supplying a tree to the Ohio Governor's Mansion this holiday season!

Interested in displaying a tree, but not interested in competing in the contest? We need you too! In our new expanded area in the building, we have room to display many trees. It's a great way for you to showcase your farm throughout the run of the fair. We are hoping to make quite a splash for our industry in this exciting new facility!

It's tree shearing season! Are you new to shearing or need to brush up on your skills? The Ohio Christmas Tree Association is happy to offer One-On-One shearing lessons for beginners or less experienced growers. You will visit the farm of one or our more experienced growers who will give you personalized training on real trees!

This service is FREE to all OCTA member as a benefit of your membership. It is also available to non-members at a cost of $50/hour. We have expert shearers around the state that are willing to extend the invitation to visit their farms to get this invaluable experience.
