It takes a village. Literally. 💛

Together We Can isn't one person doing everything. It's a mom dropping off diapers. A retiree who volunteers for school pickup. A business owner who donates supplies every August without being asked.

None of those things alone changes a kid's whole world. All of them together? That's exactly what does.

As summer winds down, we're reminded again how much this community makes possible for local foster families.

Almost the weekend. 🎉 For a lot of us, that means sleeping in, slow mornings, maybe a little chaos with the kids we love.

For a kid in foster care, weekends can feel different, less certain, sometimes lonely. That's where a steady, willing family can change everything, even just for a Saturday morning pancake breakfast.

Here's to a weekend where every kid has somewhere to be. 💛

Right now, there's a kid somewhere in our community who needs a place to stay tonight. Not someday. Tonight.

That's the reality of foster care, it's urgent, it's local, and it's closer to home than most people realize. You might be the exact family that kid needs. Not because you're perfect, but because you're willing.

If that thought just made your stomach flip a little, in a good way, that might be worth sitting with. No pressure, just an open door whenever you're ready. 💛

You don't have to be a foster parent, caseworker, or donor to make a difference. 💙 You can be a neighbor.

Learn the names of the kids on your street. Say hello consistently. Predictability matters. Know a foster or kinship family nearby? Bring a meal. Offer to help. Ask "how are you doing?" and mean it. Share Together We Can's posts. Awareness brings support.

Macon County takes care of its own. That's what Together We Can means.

Today is Son and Daughter Day. 💙

For many kids in foster care, those words carry a complicated history. Some have never heard "son" or "daughter" said with warmth, with permanence, with love that doesn't come with conditions. Every child deserves to know what it feels like to belong to someone.

Foster and kinship families give that gift every day, often without much recognition. If you are one of them, thank you. If you know one, tell them today.

Such a great couple of days at the Social Services Institute in Hickory, NC! ❤️

As a Macon County DSS Board member, I’m grateful for opportunities to continue learning and growing alongside other board members from across the state. I especially love being able to look at things through both the DSS Board lens and the Together We Can perspective, always asking, “How can we do more for our kids?”

I came home revived, fired up, and ready to keep advocating for the children and families in Macon County. ❤️

And an exciting little update… after serving on the North Carolina Association of County Boards of Social Services this past year, I was incredibly honored to be elected 1st Vice President by my fellow board members! 🥰

What an honor. Ready to hit the ground running and keep advocating for our little people! ❤️

Foster care isn't a headline. It's a regular Tuesday. 💛

It's a foster mom packing two lunches instead of one because a new placement showed up last night. It's a neighbor picking up an extra kid from practice without being asked twice. It's a caseworker answering their phone at 9pm because a family needed someone.

That's what this work actually looks like most days, not a gala, not a headline. Just people showing up for each other. Who's a "Tuesday" person in your life?

Somewhere in Macon County, a foster parent is labeling school supplies with a child's name. 💙

They're figuring out bus schedules for a kiddo who just joined their family. They're planning first-day outfits, filling out enrollment paperwork, and reassuring a nervous heart that the new school year is going to be okay.

Just quiet, faithful love on a Thursday. So this post is for our foster and adoptive parents. We see you. The work you do behind the scenes is changing lives, one packed lunch and one bedtime pep talk at a time.
