What a wonderful evening we had with A primitive past.! Paula introduced us to the art of wool rug hooking and shared her expertise. Guild members had the opportunity to admire her hooked rugs up close, learn about the process, and even shop for wool in her pop-up shop.

Thank you, Paula, for introducing us to another fiber art and for such an enjoyable evening!

Our next guild meeting is Tuesday, May 5th. As usual there will be a demonstration at 6pm, social time at 6:30pm, and the meeting will start at 7pm.

We are happy to welcome Paula Shultz from A primitive past.

Paula Shultz, who owns A primitive past. Shop in Noble County, is our May speaker. She will present a lovely wool trunk show and offer wool supplies in a pop-up shop.

Paula has a background in sewing garments, quilting, and cross stitch. She started wool rug hooking in 1997. She was self taught in the early days of working with wool, but started taking classes after retirement.

Her shop opened in 2008. It is a lovely building on her farm, filled with primitive decor, antiques, and all things wool (rugs, mats, wool fabric, over dyed fabric). The shop is open by appointment. She offers classes in beginner rug hooking on primitive linen and how to color plan projects.

What a treat it was to spend the evening with Robert (Bob) Lovell last week. He is a quilter, a former high school math teacher, and a self-declared paper piecing convert (well, if he didn't declare it his quilts did!).

A special thank you is owed to his wife who walked the quilts through the room, allowing us all to appreciate the details of his work up close. By the end of the evening, guild members were asking if he has thought about selling his patterns!

Thank you, Bob, for sharing your time and talent with our guild. Your quilts are truly exceptional.

"What happens when a lifelong math teacher discovers the beauty of quilting? For Robert Lovell, the result is art with both heart and geometry.

In this episode of Arts IN Focus, we meet Robert “Bob” Lovell, a retired high school math teacher who found an unexpected creative outlet in the world of quilting. Bob’s work blends his passion for mathematics with the artistry of fabric, using patterns inspired by Pythagoras’ theorem and other mathematical concepts to create stunning quilt designs.

After bringing quilts into his classroom to help students visualize geometry, Bob fell in love with the craft. Now in retirement, he continues to design and sew quilts that combine mathematical precision with vibrant artistic expression." - from PBS Fort Wayne
