Everyday we hear from people in our community who are needing help. Sometimes it's a need for groceries to get through a couple days, other times the need is greater.

But every request is a chance for us to connect. Every email is an opportunity for us to show up for people who need not only groceries but a message of hope.

Right now you can help us continue the mission. Our food pantry is in need of donations and we are still continuing our Joanne Lederman Legacy Fund donor match.

We want to be a place of consistent assurance for our families they are loved, supported and cared for.

Fridays are Operation Bicycle Day at Heart of the City! We love getting to connect with those in our program and walking alongside them as they develop necessary life skills and ultimately finish the program and receive their bike!

🚲You might be asking "what's the big deal about getting a bike?"
It's our HEART for those in our community to be able to check that important box on a job application, 'Do you have reliable transportation'

That YES means:
💵 Opportunity for a paycheck
💊 Ability to get needed prescriptions
🍓Picking up groceries
❤ Being able to connect with family

The issue isn't just food, it's access. Entire neighborhoods in our community lack reliable access to fresh, healthy food. That's where change begins. Through our Food Rescue Program and our Food Pantry & Provisions. The HEART of our mission is to ensure individuals and families in Fort Wayne have ACCESS to what they need most. We can't do it alone and we need your help.

This is what hunger looks like 👉 and you might not even recognize it.

It looks like the woman sitting on a park bench for her 15 minute break, eating a discounted day old sandwich so she has enough money to buy her children dinner.

It looks like the dad with greased hands from working in the shop, skipping his own dinner so his kids can eat.

It looks like a young girl at school splitting her lunch in half so her best friend can have lunch too.

But it shouldn't have to be this way. Our Food Rescue Program serves families just like these. We want to serve more of the need in Fort Wayne. Will you help us to ensure the kids can have dinner WITH their parents?

In Fort Wayne, poverty is rising even among working families. Many households are doing everything "right" and still can't afford basic needs like food, housing, and childcare.

This is what generational poverty looks like.

Hunger doesn't take a summer break. In our own community, thousands of childen lose access to consistent meals when school is out. We're working to change that - but we can't do it alone

The USDA defines a food desert as lack of grocery stores or other access to healthy food within one mile in urban areas and for 33% of those in community who live in a food desert they live MORE than 1 mile.

Living in a food desert often times requires a 10+ minute walk to a bus stop, additional walking to the store and only being able to acquire a limited amount of food because of the travel back home.

We seek to off set some of this struggle with our Food Rescue Program and Food Pantry. Our programs wouldn't be possible without the generosity of our community both through monetary donations as well as donations of supplies.

Each week we serve over 600 meals to individuals and families in the heart of our city, we want to serve more! Will you join us to bridge the gap?
