Pirates, pies, and community spirit in Ronan!

Ronan American Legion Post 138 welcomed about 100 trick-or-treaters for a Halloween celebration filled with candy, laughter, and a little friendly competition!

Eight pies entered the contest, and congratulations go to Julie, who took BOTH first and second place with her pecan and lemon meringue pies! A big thank-you to our pie judges for taking on the delicious responsibility of choosing the winners!

Once again, we had the best pirates the Legion could ask for, complete with sword fights and tales of the high seas! Our fortune-telling witch added a little mystery and Halloween magic to the festivities.

Ten members joined the town hall to hear from leading candidate for National Commander Matt Shuman, ask questions, and connect over the work of The American Legion. We were also glad to welcome members from Kalispell Post 137 and Polson Post 112!

Thank you to Ronan’s Post leadership and everyone who helped bake, decorate, hand out candy, and welcome the community. A job well done and another reminder that our posts bring people together through service, fellowship, and a whole lot of heart.

Pie, Purpose, and Great Conversation at Helena Post 2!

American Legion Post 2 in Helena welcomed the Leading Candidate for National Commander Matt Shuman for a town hall filled with good food, meaningful conversation, and a little friendly competition!

Our pie contest featured eight entries, including a unique spaghetti pie that brought something a little different to the table! Congratulations to Ashley Carpenter for her raspberry pie and Sara Daye for her peanut butter cup pie. A big thank-you to everyone who entered and to our judges, Department Commander Irene Dickerson, Department Vice Commander Brian Carpenter, and Matt Shuman, for taking on the delicious task of choosing our winners!

Approximately 20 people joined the town hall, including members from White Sulphur Springs Post 25 and Great Falls Post 341. We appreciated everyone making the trip and being part of the conversation.

The discussion covered VA compensation questions, TACAVA, and testimony before Congress, along with how the work we do at the Department level helps carry veterans’ voices forward. It was a reminder that what happens in our Posts and communities is connected to the advocacy taking place on a much larger stage.

Matt also left everyone with a challenge: Bring someone new who is eligible to belong and show them what The American Legion does. A personal invitation and the chance to see our mission in action can make all the difference.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Post 2 staff for all their work setting up, to Post Trustee Ray Read and Post Vice Commander Roy Caldwell for hosting, and to Commander Joe Wagner for preparing the amazing soup he shared with everyone!

Thank you, Post 2, for a wonderful gathering and for helping keep us Connected for Montana!

A little pirate gusto, some friendly chili competition, and plenty of community generosity made the gathering hosted by Laurel American Legion Post 123 a success.
