LOE3: Historic Preservation

Today we honor US Marine Corps Lance Corporal Richard Anderson who posthumously received the Medal of Honor for actions on this day in 1969 that saved the lives his fellow Marines at the cost of his own. Lance Corporal Anderson served as an assistant team leader with Company E, 3d Reconnaissance Battalion, 3dMarine Division (Reinforced), Fleet Marine Force during the Vietnam War.

While on patrol in the Quang Tri Province of Vietnam, Lance Corporal Anderson’s reconnaissance team came under heavy attack from well-concealed enemy soldiers. Knocked to the ground with injuries to both legs, Lance Corporal Anderson took a flat-body position and laid heavy suppressive fire to repel the enemy force. Even while a fellow Marine tended to his leg injuries, Lance Corporal Anderson kept delivering fire at the assailants’ position.

But when a hand gr***de landed between himself and another Marine, Lance Corporal Anderson – without regard for his life and safety – rolled his body over it to save the others around him. He was 21 years old.

Working on the smokers, they've needed a little love for awhile now. Added a new rack in the fire box, put in wire mesh to keep wood from being able to push through, added a step to the side that didn't have one, new pipes that work, put a cross piece in for rack support. Last but not least a new paint job. They will be ready for our upcoming butt cooking. 😎👀
