Adelante Mujer - Educating Women. Transforming Communities. Adelante Mujer, Inc. Adelante Mujer (Woman Advance), Inc.

(which means "Woman Advance" in English) works to help women in Central America become doctors and nurses - bringing life saving care to underserved communities. was founded in 2009 by Sister Ann McKean, CSA when she met an academically superior Nicaraguan high school graduate. The young woman wanted to pursue a university education but was unable to do so because she did not have the money. Begin

ning at that moment Sister Ann, herself a university professor, was inspired to do everything in her power to financially assist similar young Nicaraguan women with aspirations for a college degree they could not afford.

Today, we are honored to share Adelante Mujer’s 2025 Impact Report.

As we reflect on this past year, our hearts are full of gratitude.

Because of the generosity of our supporters, women across Nicaragua and Guatemala are pursuing their dreams of becoming doctors and nurses. They are studying late into the night, traveling long distances to attend classes and clinicals, caring for their communities, and building futures that once felt out of reach.

This year, we celebrated new graduates, expanded our work in Guatemala, invested in educational resources, and continued walking alongside remarkable women who are changing the future of healthcare in their communities.

But what moves us most are not the numbers.

It’s the young woman who becomes the first doctor in her family.

It’s the nursing student who returns to serve her village.

It’s the mother who receives care from someone who understands her language, culture, and community.

It’s the ripple effect that begins when one woman is given the opportunity to learn, lead, and serve.

To every donor, volunteer, advocate, board member, partner, and friend: thank you. You are part of every success story. You are helping create a future where healthcare is more accessible, communities are stronger, and women are empowered to lead.

And we’re just getting started.

More women are waiting for an opportunity. More communities need healthcare leaders. More lives can be transformed.

As we look toward 2026, we are filled with hope and excitement for what we can accomplish together.

When women rise, the world changes.

🎉 A Dream Realized 🎉

Today, we celebrate an extraordinary milestone.

After completing her medical education and three years of required government service in Nicaragua, Xochilt is now a fully licensed physician.

In her own words:

“Today I can say that I am a doctor.”

Xochilt recently shared her gratitude with Adelante Mujer, remembering the people who believed in her journey from the very beginning. She offered special thanks to Sister Ann McKean, whose vision created opportunities for women like Xochilt, and to Sister Kathy and the many donors and supporters who helped make her dream possible.

For years, Xochilt worked tirelessly toward this goal—not only for herself, but so she could return and serve her community through healthcare.

Today we celebrate her perseverance, her faith, and her commitment to helping others.

Congratulations, Dr. Xochilt! Your Adelante Mujer family is incredibly proud of you, and we cannot wait to see the lives you will continue to touch through your work.

💙 Meet Slilma.

After years of study, clinical rotations, community health work, and government service, Slilma has completed another major milestone on her journey to becoming a licensed physician.

These photos capture just a few moments from her service years—caring for patients, educating families, and putting her education into practice in the communities that need it most.

Now, she is preparing to defend her thesis and take the final steps toward earning her medical license.

We are so proud of you, Slilma. Your future patients are lucky to have you. 💙

Three years of service.
Countless lives already touched.

Janiesca is now preparing to defend her thesis and receive her full medical license after completing her neonatal rotation caring for some of the most vulnerable babies in Nicaragua.

This is what happens when a woman is given the chance to learn, serve, and lead.

The need is growing. The future is possible.
Help us educate the next doctor.

Some trips change your scenery.
This one brought us back to our purpose.

In Guatemala, we spent time with young women studying to become nurses—women who will return to communities where access to healthcare is limited and often out of reach.

They know exactly why they’re doing this.
To care for mothers.
To treat children.
To be the one people turn to when there is nowhere else to go.

This is what investing in women looks like.
It’s not abstract. It’s real. It’s happening right now.

When one woman is supported, entire communities are changed.

If you feel pulled into this story, you are already part of it.

Today, these women walked into a hospital not as students—but as future providers.

This is the AM 4th year cohort, stepping into their first day of clinicals at a brand new hospital.

Behind this moment are years of sacrifice.
Early mornings. Long bus rides. Studying when it would have been easier not to. Choosing this path over and over again.

And now—here they are.

White coats on.
Standing at the threshold of the work they’ve fought so hard to do.

This is where everything changes.
Not just for them—but for the communities they will serve for the rest of their lives.

Because when one woman becomes a healthcare provider,
entire communities gain access to care, dignity, and hope.

This is why we do this work.

We couldn’t be more proud.

Today I want to share a little about my training and say thank you from my heart. 💙

Every day I continue learning what it means to care for others. During our practices we are gaining real experience — examining patients, checking blood pressure, and learning how to recognize and respond to health problems in our communities.

These moments remind me why I chose this path. Becoming a nurse is not only a profession, it is a commitment to serve.

Thank you to Adelante Mujer and to everyone who supports this program. Because of you, I am able to continue my studies and move closer to my dream of caring for people who need it most.

Your support is helping build the next generation of healthcare workers in our communities.

With gratitude,
Flor 💗
