On June 12th, we’ll officially open the doors to Cat Crossing at our South Carolina Rescue Campus — a brand-new space created to give vulnerable cats and kittens the safety, care, and second chances they deserve.
Kitten season has already arrived, and before we can welcome our first tiny residents, we still need to fill Cat Crossing with everything that turns a building into a lifesaving home: kennels, cat caves, litter boxes, food and water bowls, scratchers, and more.

Big dogs get overlooked for the smallest reasons.
“Too big.”
“Too energetic.”
“Too intimidating.”

But here’s the truth: some of the gentlest, funniest, most loyal dogs in rescue are the ones with the giant paws and couch-sized hearts. 🐾

In a shelter environment, big dogs are often the first to struggle and the last to get noticed. A foster home gives them something the kennel never can: decompression, stability, routine, and the chance to finally exhale. Suddenly, the “wild shelter dog” becomes a snuggler, a couch potato, a hiking buddy, a goofy shadow who carries around stuffed animals like priceless treasure. Fostering a large dog doesn’t just save one life. It changes the entire trajectory of that dog’s future and makes space so that Lucky Dog can rescue another at-risk pet from a local partner shelter.

Big dogs love BIG. Completely. Unapologetically. The kind of love that fills a room.

Every two weeks Lucky Dog Animal Rescue fosters and volunteers gather on our SC Rescue Campus to send our dogs and cats up to our foster-based adoption program in the DC metro area. Every pet on the van has a foster or adopter waiting to meet them on the other end of the trip. Every one of them is now one step closer to their happily ever after. You - our volunteers, supporters and fosters -- make this possible.

One Food Lion (2nd Loop Road, Florence.)
One BIG GOAL!
One Month.
100 Hours.
Four Fridays.
Dozens of employees.
Countless tails wagged. 💙🐾

Every Friday in May, the incredible team from Food Lion on 2nd Loop showed up for the dogs of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue with work gloves, big hearts, and a mission: reach 100 volunteer hours in one month.

But somewhere between cleaning kennels, walking dogs, and learning the art of playgroups, this became about so much more than a number. These amazing humans gave our dogs confidence, enrichment, socialization, belly laughs, zoomies, and love. ✨

We are beyond grateful that they chose to spend their Fridays with us. Their dedication, kindness, and willingness to jump into every challenge has made a real impact on our campus and on the lives of the dogs waiting for their Van ride to forever.

To the entire Food Lion team: THANK YOU. We are so Lucky to have you in our corner. 🐶💚
