Grumpy’s Fleming Island location opens to the public Monday, October 12, at 1803 East West Parkway, right off U.S. 17.

This morning’s soft opening raised money for the local YMCA.

Reports of flooding in Clay County, I came to see the river conditions for myself.

Eastern Clay County is under a Coastal Flood Warning until 5 p.m. today, followed by an advisory through Saturday afternoon. Tidal flooding could linger, and more rain is possible Friday and Saturday. Isaias is not expected to directly impact Clay County, but the wet forecast could add to flooding concerns.

Know someone near the river? Share this so they can keep an eye on conditions. Don’t drive through floodwater.

Good news for drivers who’ve been taking the detour on County Road 220 for the better part of two years now. The new 4 lane bridge over Little Black Creek is open to traffic.

The old bridge was built in 1947, and the project also included improvements at Rideout Ferry Road.

Florida’s deadline to remove FLOCK cameras from state highway rights-of-way is September 30.

Today, six days before that deadline, I drove several major state roads through Clay County and used the crowdsourced DeFlock map as a starting point to document which cameras were still physically standing.

A visible camera does not prove it is operating, who owns it or whether it sits within the exact state right-of-way. After September 30, I’ll drive these roads again and document what changed.

If you live in Clay County, your flood zone could be changing. FEMA’s proposed maps are out, and the appeal period ends November 18, 2026.

Search your address in the county’s Flood Zone Helper to see your current zone and proposed new zone. The link is in the first pinned comment. Most properties show no change, but if yours changed and something looks wrong, contact the county’s flood team at [email protected]. Formal appeals require supporting technical data.

Solite. If you're from Clay County, you've probably heard the name, and there's a history behind it going back decades.

The plant operated off Russell Road for roughly 36 years before shutting down in 1995. Environmental investigations, cleanup efforts, documented contamination, and attempts to develop portions of the property followed. This summer, FDEP held a public meeting on the next phase of cleanup.

The Little Black Creek bridge on CR 220 is not opening September 17.

Some posts went around today with that date. It is not accurate. As of today's county commission meeting, the target is still mid October.

I recorded the meeting live, so this is straight from the room and not secondhand. If that date firms up or slips again, you will hear it here.
