To bring the communities of North Central Massachusetts together to improve education and awareness of the harmful effects of substance use on youth, with and emphasis on Alcohol, To***co and misuse of Prescription Medication through environmental strategies such as Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA). LUK Prevention has adopted the Healthy Community Principles which are:

🫂 About QPR Su***de Prevention:
QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is a simple and effective su***de prevention training for community members who are 16 or older. Learn how to recognize warning signs of su***de, how to ask someone if they’re thinking about su***de, how to persuade them to get help, and how to refer them to the right support. Just like CPR or First Aid, QPR is a way for community members to make a difference and help save lives. Participants are certified in QPR upon completion of the training.

Most youth in Central Mass choose not to drink alcohol. Instead they choose to play sports, keep motivated, and hang out with friends. ⚽

As school starts back up again, we're sharing posts from our Youth Leaders with important messages about underage substance use. Letting middle and high schoolers know that most of their peers don't actually drink can help them feel less pressure to make unhealthy and risky choices. Learn more at https://prevention.luk.org/

📸Introducing LUK's Photovoice Youth Community Action Plan Project 📸

The Importance of Third Spaces and Why Our Community Needs Them:

As the social stratosphere of society has shifted from tangible to digital, humans rely on devices more than ever for inspiration and interaction. The convenience has made us forget our roots: the places we enjoyed as a community before social media took over. Through photography, our aim is to showcase local third spaces in the Fitchburg community where youth can be safe and spend time together. We can create a great community environment, increase protective factors against risks such as problem and underage gambling, and foster a sense of belonging by highlighting spaces where all people can come together. Join us in our project about finding physical third spaces in and creating new ones!

This holiday season, make a plan to stay safe and avoiding driving under the influence ✅

🚗Pick a designated driver
🤳Use a taxi or rideshare service (download the app ahead of time!)
🥤Drink mocktails or your favorite soda
🔑Give somebody else your car keys
💤 Spend the night
⏰ Know your body and pace yourself
💭 Know what to do if your plan changes - who you can call, what rideshare services you use, etc.

Whether you're going to parties with friends or spending quality time with family, it is important to practice good habits and make responsible decisions. Making a plan ahead of time is a great way to avoid dangerous situations.
