Happy Finnish Sauna Day! Did you know that in Finland, Saturday has traditionally been sauna day?

For generations, families heated the sauna on Saturdays for bathing, washing, and preparing for Sunday. In fact, the Finnish word for Saturday, lauantai, is believed to have roots connected to washing and bathing traditions.

Today, on Finnish Sauna Day, we celebrate more than just a hot room—we celebrate a centuries-old tradition of wellness, community, cleanliness, and connection.

Our dear friend and Arne Vaino, our “Finnishinaabe” friend share löyly. Steve is a sauna lover through and through. Dr. Arne comes from both Finnish and Anishinaabe heritage and deeply understands both cultures’ sweat bathing practices.

These two remind us how deeply rooted, historical, and spiritual this practice is.
