October 22 is getting close! SACRN Non Profit Organization's event benefiting MiGen is almost here, with drag queen bingo hosted by Mocha Pronto, dinner, drinks, raffles and community.

It’s a chance to come together, have a great night and show up for Michigan’s LGBTQ+ older adults and those who care for them. All proceeds benefit MiGen and help us continue providing support, resources and community across the state.

On Wednesday, we marked an exciting milestone for MiGen with a special celebration recognizing our expansion to a second location inside Corktown Health in Detroit.

This second location represents much more than another physical space. LGBTQ+ older adults and those who care for them deserve places where they feel welcomed, affirmed, and connected to the programs, services, and community designed by and for them. Our partnership with Corktown Health gives us another opportunity to make that a reality, right in the heart of Detroit.

The celebration included a special tribute from the State of Michigan, presented by Dr. Brandon Shamoun, Co-Chair of Michigan's LGBTQ+ Commission. Signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist, the tribute recognizes this milestone and MiGen's ongoing work to support LGBTQ+ older adults across Michigan.

Thank you to our partners at Corktown Health for helping make this expansion possible, and to everyone who joined us on Wednesday to celebrate.

One week to go!
Medicare Open Enrollment begins in one week and runs through December 7. For people with Medicare—and those helping a loved one navigate their coverage—this is your chance to review your current plan, explore your options, and make sure your coverage still works for your needs in the year ahead.

Throughout Open Enrollment, MiGen’s MI Options Medicare counselors will be visiting locations across Michigan to provide free, unbiased, one-on-one Medicare counseling in partnership with local organizations.

Our first stop is October 15 from 10 AM-2 PM at Corktown Health in Hazel Park! Thank you to Corktown and the Detroit Area Agency on Aging for helping us kick off the season and connect more people with the Medicare support they need.

Michigan’s general election is November 3, and there’s a lot to keep track of before Election Day. United Way for Southeastern Michigan has put together a collection of voting resources to help Michigan voters navigate the process, from checking your registration and finding your polling place to seeing what’s on your ballot and learning about absentee, early and accessible voting options. Most importantly...don't forget to get out there and vote!

Elections are an opportunity to shape the future of your community. From the August primary to the November general election, we want to keep you informed.

Join us tomorrow (virtually!), October 7 from 6-7 PM for Becoming You, our monthly virtual support group for anyone exploring their LGBTQ+ identity later in life, whether unsure, newly out, quietly wondering, or somewhere in between.

Becoming You offers space for gentle curiosity, honest reflection, and meaningful connection, without pressure to have answers or adopt labels.

Remember, there’s no timeline for self-discovery, only room to grow, connect, and Age Out Loud!

Have you or a loved one gotten a call saying you can get free food if you just give them your Medicare number? This is a scam.

Scammers may call and offer free food, groceries or other benefits in exchange for your Medicare number. Don’t give it to them. Your Medicare number is personal information and should be protected just like a credit card or Social Security number.

If you or someone you’re caring for has shared a Medicare number over the phone, please report it to the Senior Medicare Patrol. You can call 877-808-2468 or fill out a form at smpresource.org/reportfraud.

Our friends at Corktown Health are hosting Build Your Therapy Tool-Kit, an eight-week group focused on learning and practicing coping skills - and there are still several sessions coming up this fall!

Each Wednesday, the group will explore a different topic-from mindfulness and self-compassion to communication, acceptance, values and creative expression. The group meets from 1:30–3:00 PM at Corktown Health in Detroit.
