Are you trans, nonbinary, gender diverse, agender, gender q***r, Two-Spirit, a person of trans experience, or another non cisgender identity? Do you live in Michigan? Are you 18 years or older?

If so, please consider taking the 2025 Michigan Trans Health Survey at www.MITransHealthSurvey.com!

It's a collaboration between Dr. Shanna Kattari (a nonbinary health scholar from the University of Michigan School Social Work and Dept of Women's & Gender Studies) and trans/gender diverse community partners at Transcend the Binary, following up our 2018 MTHS. Findings will help us better understand the current health and health care experiences of trans and gender.diverse folks in Michigan, as well as provide data for advocacy at the state, local, and insurance level. UM IRB found it to be exempt.

Jackie Shane was more than a soul singer—she was a revolutionary. A Black trans woman who electrified 1960s audiences with her unmistakable voice and unapologetic authenticity, Jackie refused to hide who she was in an era that demanded conformity. Her music, filled with passion and defiance, became anthems of joy and resistance.

For , we honor Jackie Shane’s legacy—a reminder that Black trans people have always shaped culture, broken barriers, and demanded to be seen. 💜🎶

We just gave our son's (high school) prom dress to a young lady who couldn't afford one. She asked about it and told her it was our son's pre-transition dress. She beamed & said "that means I'll be the first girl to wear this!"

We are devastated by the tragic loss of Tahiry Broom, a 29-year-old Black trans woman who found killed in Michigan. Tahiry was described by loved ones as a brilliant, beautiful soul, a daughter, sister, and friend whose warmth and presence brought joy to those around her. She was known for her radiant energy and was deeply loved by her community.

Her life was stolen in yet another act of senseless violence against Black trans women, who continue to be among the most vulnerable to racism, transphobia, and systemic injustice. We refuse to let her name be forgotten. Trans women, especially Black trans women, deserve to grow old, to thrive, and to live freely without fear.

We honor Tahiry’s life and legacy by demanding justice, safety, and a future where trans people are protected — not just in memory, but in life. We send our deepest love to her family, friends, and all who are mourning. Rest in power, Tahiry.
