Motor City Possum Rescue

10/08/2026

It feels like there is no end to baby squirrels. This group from Inkster will be with us all winter,. We appreciate the effort made by the finder to get them to safety, Theyre warming up in an incubator and will start on hydration shortly.

We are still busy, busy, busy with baby squirrels. 🥰🥰 While we have about 45 squirrels outside in pre-release, we still have 60 or so waiting to go outside, and another 25+ babies who will stay with us until spring.

Some of our current residents. We still have a fair amount of possums. Some will likely be here through the winter as they won't be big enough to go before the cold sets in and the food sources diminish. Its a tough call but we want them to have every advantage.

Successful rescue in Detroit.

Thank you Brittany Bentley for your assistance and thank you to everyone else who was willing to go. And special thanks to the person who reached out and alerted us to the situation. We don’t know who you are but we love you for caring ❤️

Another raccoon intake from Clinton Township. We were alerted to this one who was seen in a park walking in circles. One of our volunteers just happened to be in the area and was able to scoop it up. No obvious injuries but definitely has some neurological issues. It was hungry and thirsty so we are somewhat optimistic about recovery 🤞🏻🙏🏻

Our new intake.
This raccoon was stumbling around a yard and the concerned home owner reached out. It took some coordination to get it transported but with help from the Michigan Wildlife Rehab Transport team it is now with us. We aren’t sure what’s going on yet but it’s very lethargic so we always start with fluids.
Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Slight progress. We’re doing multiple small meals and she is eating everything and can open her eyes. This is going to take some time though. But we’re happy with the progress as it’s been less than a week.

Please understand that this situation should be left alone for now. Any attempt at rescue will likely result in death. Even if there was a way to get up the pole, the raccoon will be terrified and probably fall to the ground. It's better to leave it and hope that it descends on its own. It got up there. Hopefully it can get down

Please help! There is a raccoon stuck on the light pole on 696 near Dequindre at mile marker 20! I don’t know how he got up there can anyone help!
