On June 19, we recognize and celebrate Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and honors the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans throughout our nation's history.

At MOWSC, we believe that every older adult deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. As we serve a diverse community of seniors, Juneteenth offers an opportunity to reflect on the importance of equity, inclusion, and ensuring that all individuals have access to the support they need to thrive.

We encourage our community to take time to learn about the significance of Juneteenth and celebrate the rich history and culture that continue to shape our communities today.

Recently, Laurie and Tyler had the opportunity to attend GiveCon, a conference dedicated to fundraising and nonprofit growth. The event brought together nonprofit professionals from across the region to share ideas, learn best practices, and explore innovative ways to strengthen community impact.

Throughout the conference, they participated in workshops and discussions focused on sustainable fundraising strategies. The knowledge and connections gained at GiveCon will help MOWSC continue enhancing its programs, strengthening donor relationships, and expanding support for local seniors.

We're excited to bring these new ideas back to MOWSC and put them into action as we continue our mission of nourishing seniors and reducing isolation throughout Solano County.

During Pet Appreciation Week, we celebrate the special bond between people and their pets. For many older adults, pets provide companionship, comfort, purpose, and unconditional love making a meaningful difference in their daily lives.

Through our PAWS Program, we help seniors continue providing for their furry companions by delivering pet food and supplies alongside nutritious meals. This week, we extend our gratitude to the pets who bring joy to our clients and volunteers every day.

Our hearts are with the students, families, educators, and all those affected by the tragic event that occurred following last night's graduation ceremony at Sem Yeto High School in Fairfield. What should have been a joyful celebration became a heartbreaking loss for our community. We at Meals on Wheels Solano County extend our deepest condolences to the family of the young person who lost their life and keep those who were injured, along with their loved ones, in our thoughts.

As a Fairfield-based organization serving older adults throughout Solano County, we are deeply saddened by this. In moments like these, we are reminded of the importance of compassion, connection, and caring for our neighbors.

We stand with Fairfield and all those impacted as our community mourns, heals, and supports one another in the days ahead.
