During large fires and other significant events, units get shuffled around to better cover the county. Due to today’s commercial fire in the Town of Vienna, Engine 413B was moved down the road to Vienna Volunteer Fire Department to backfill. Always glad to add a little yellow to the red!

Exciting news! For the first time in 12 years, McLean VFD will have a new, state-of-the-art fire engine. Our current engine went on the road in 2014. We’ve been fundraising and seeking donations for this new engine for the past several years, and we are looking forward to its arrival in the next few months. McLean VFD expresses heartfelt thanks to all those who have contributed to make it possible to continually improve our capability to serve our community.

We would like to recognize the three Vienna VFD members who participated in the recent mission to rescue trapped civilians in Venezuela after a devastating series of earthquakes. Among the 81 team members who deployed on the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department’s Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team were our very own Jaimie Gillespie (Plans Team Manager), John Morrison (Public Information Officer), and Zach Smith (Technical Information Specialist).

To successfully coordinate international rescue efforts, teams must be able to quickly develop accurate and actionable information. Jaimie, John, and Zach worked hard to ensure that the Command Staff, Rescue Squads, and other teams and agencies working in-country had the real-time understanding they needed in the effort to locate and rescue victims, and that all communications with the outside world were clear, concise, and correct.

Jaimie, John, and Zach built the wide array of skills needed for this critical work through previous USAR missions and many trainings, and we are incredibly proud of their work on behalf of the people of Venezuela. Our hearts go out to our community members whose families and friends were impacted, and we wish the best to them as Venezuela recovers.
