UN Secretary-General: Violence against believers must stop

The Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians in Europe calls for greater attention to be paid to the situation of girls from religious minorities in Pakistan. Human rights experts repeatedly point to cases of abduction, forced conversions, and forced marriages.

OIDAC notes that the recent "Stolen Girls" report by Jubilee Campaign which documents 210 cases of abduction, forced conversion, and forced marriage of Christian girls between 2019 and 2025. Among those affected were minors who were abducted from their homes, subsequently converted to Islam and married to significantly older men, while their families tried in vain to obtain effective protection from the authorities.

The Committee on Enforced Disappearances and the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances notes that even a short-term enforced disappearance [e.g. 10 days] violates rights - it still carries serious consequences on the disappeared and their families.

The UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues notes that anti-conversion laws are always applied discriminatorily, often to target minority belief expression.

In Nepal anti-conversion laws have been used to raise charges against pastors for sharing their faith, in India they have been weaponised against Christian nuns and charity workers for providing aid and services to people outside their faith.
