Since the outset of the war, Mending Roots has provided meals to a nursing home and shelters delivered essential supplies to a children’s orphanage in Chernivtsi, assisted elderly individuals living alone with critical needs such as food and medication, supported single mothers and their children struggling to make ends meet, and so much more.

This month we are looking for 9 donors to make a monthly donation commitment that will support those being most effected by the war in Ukraine.

After surviving a devastating car accident that left her in a wheelchair, Lenochka endured 18 days of bombardment in Mariupol, Ukraine. The city became one of the most devastated in the entire war – relentlessly shelled, cut off from food, water, and electricity, with tens of thousands of civilians trapped inside. She escaped with her life – but lost her home, her mobility equipment, and access to critical care.

Displaced and in urgent need, Lenochka required a wheelchair and medication. Through the generosity of our community of supporters, Mending Roots helped fund both – allowing her to travel safely, reunite with her family, and begin rebuilding her life.

Lenochka’s story is not exceptional. It is Tuesday in Ukraine.

While headlines reflect shifting battle lines, the daily reality remains unchanged – parents struggling to care for children, elders without medication, hunger, cold, and the constant threat of the next attack.

These are not survivors – they are fighters, standing not only for their own freedom but for the values we all hold: peace, dignity, and the right to live in safety.

It’s hard to believe that more than four and a half years has passed since the war in Ukraine broke out.

While the attention this war is getting in the media has waned as new conflicts and issues take its place in the headlines, the hardships the Ukrainian people are facing are still as urgent and real as they were in those early days.
