1,000 Miles For 1,000 Lights

1,000 Miles For 1,000 Lights We're aiming for an even greater impact in 2026. This September, we will ride 1,000 miles from Downers Grove, IL to Herdon, VA.

We are excited to welcome additional riders to join us for parts of the journey. Our goal is to raise at least $75,000.

From the shores of Lake Michigan all the way to Virginiaโ€”1,000 miles of changing landscapes! ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Mapping out a cross-country endurance route isnโ€™t just about finding the shortest path. Itโ€™s about navigating elevation changes, rural highways, weather patterns, and keeping the team safe over 14 grueling days.

We are officially 12 days away from the September 17 launch of 1,000 Miles for 1,000 Lights!

Have you ever taken a massive road trip or bike tour across state lines? Where was your favorite stop? Drop it below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

You don't have to ride 1,000 miles to be part of this. โค๏ธ

Today is International Day of Charity, and there's something I really love about that reminder:

**Helping doesn't look the same for everyone.**

Five guys are about to spend 14 days riding 1,000 miles.

I will spend those 14 days in the support truck trying to stay ahead of them, keeping stops organized, supplies ready and everyone moving. ๐Ÿš™๐Ÿ˜‚

Others have donated.
Shared our posts.
Supported Watts of Love.
Encouraged the riders.
Helped behind the scenes.
And every piece matters.

Our goal this year is **$75,000** to support Watts of Love and help bring sustainable solar lightโ€”and the opportunities that come with itโ€”to families living without reliable electricity.

Maybe riding 1,000 miles isn't your thing.

That's okay. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Your part might be $10.

It might be sharing this post.

It might be telling one person WHY these guys are riding.

It might simply be following along and cheering them on.

**Big impact is usually a lot of people doing their part.**

What's a cause YOU care deeply about? I'd love to hear about it below. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‘‡

When did going outside get so complicated? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŒณ

When we were kids, nobody needed a reservation, an itinerary or $200 worth of equipment.

You just...

went outside.

Rode bikes.

Walked around the neighborhood.

Played in the yard.

Went fishing.

Found a trail.

Sat by the water.

Stayed out until somebody yelled your name. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Today is National Play Outside Day, and maybe the grown-up version doesn't have to be complicated either.

Take a walk.

Sit on the porch.

Go to the park.

Play with the kids or grandkids.

Ride your bike.

Work in the garden.

Drink your coffee outside.

Just get OUT there for a little while. โค๏ธ

What's your favorite way to spend time outside now? ๐Ÿ‘‡

The riders get all the glory, but the support crew keeps the wheels turning! ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ’จ

On a 1,000-mile cross-country ride, having a dedicated support vehicle and crew is the difference between success and total breakdown. From managing nutrition and mechanical fixes to handling logistics, they are the backbone of the team.

We are officially 13 days away from the September 17 launch of 1,000 Miles for 1,000 Lights!

Today is National Food Bank Day. โค๏ธ

And instead of turning this into another cute National Day post, I think this one deserves something different.

Across our communities, food banks and their volunteers are doing work most of us hope our neighbors will never need...

but we're incredibly grateful exists when they do.

Collecting.
Sorting.
Packing.
Delivering.
Stocking shelves.
Organizing drives.
Helping families through difficult seasons.

One of the things we've learned through our work with Watts of Love is that the needs families face may look very different depending on where they live.

But compassion looks remarkably similar everywhere.

**You see a need.**

**You decide it matters.**

**You do something.**

So today, let's use the comments for something useful:

โค๏ธ **Tag or name a food bank, pantry or community organization doing great work where YOU live.**

Maybe someone reading this will discover a place they can donate, volunteer or support.

REP YOUR SCHOOL WITHOUT TELLING US THE NAME. ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ˜‚

It's National College Colors Day, so here's today's challenge:

Drop ONLY your college colors in the comments.

๐Ÿ”ตโšช
๐Ÿ”ดโšซ
๐ŸŸ โšช
๐Ÿ”ต๐Ÿ’›
๐ŸŸฃโšช

Whatever yours are...
and let everyone else try to guess the school. ๐Ÿ‘‡

No mascot.
No city.
No initials.
NO CHEATING. ๐Ÿ˜‚

And if you never went to college, you're absolutely still playingโ€”give us the colors of the college team you root for!

Let's see which school has the most people represented here. ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘‡

Kids don't need every project to turn out perfectly. ๐ŸŽจโค๏ธ

They don't need Pinterest-worthy crafts.

They don't need perfectly coordinated supplies.

And they definitely don't need us โ€œfixingโ€ what they made because the eyes are crooked or the purple sun is apparently supposed to be green. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Sometimes they just need:

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Paper
๐ŸŽจ Something colorful
โœ‚๏ธ A few supplies
๐Ÿ’ญ An idea
โค๏ธ And permission to make whatever comes into their head.

It's **Keep Kids Creative Week**, and I love the reminder that creativity isn't about making something perfect.

It's about imagining something that wasn't there before.

So tonight, give them the supplies...

and try REALLY hard not to tell them how to do it. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Parents and grandparents: what's something your kids or grandkids have made that you still have because you just couldn't throw it away? ๐Ÿ‘‡

How do you train for a 1,000-mile bike ride? ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ

For Todd, July and August alone have meant roughly 422 miles in the saddle and more than 10,000 feet of climbing.

And thatโ€™s not all heโ€™s doing.

On top of his bike training, Todd hybrid trains 3โ€“4 days a week with HIIT workouts, hill and ascent training, trail runs, DEKA and HYROX-style training.

Thatโ€™s a LOT of work for a starting line.

But in 14 days, the training ends and the real challenge begins:

๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ 1,000 miles
๐Ÿ“… 14 days
โค๏ธ 5 riders
๐Ÿ’ก One mission bigger than all of them

On September 17, the team rolls out for our 4th annual 1,000 Miles for 1,000 Lights ride to help Watts of Love bring life-changing solar light to families living without reliable electricity.

Now the question isโ€ฆ

Will all five make it 1,000 miles?

Follow along. Weโ€™re about to find out. ๐Ÿ‘€
