🌳 This week, eight women in our Laudato Seeds of Change immersion program are engaged in hands-on learning about God's creation, including the importance of native plants in the lifecycle of pollinators that are so critical to the environment.

Did you know that pollinators are 4x more likely to land on native plants? Some butterflies lay their eggs exclusively on native species. If you plant it, they will come! https://snddeneastwest.org/our-work/jpic/

“Saintliness is a drama of love between God and the human person. We do not create saintliness, we do not confer it—we recognize it, we proclaim it!” -Pope Paul VI, at the canonization of Julie Billiart on June 22, 1969

🌻 St. Julie, pray for us, protect us and bless us!

“I ask that you have the grace to be very close to your children, letting them grow, but being by their side. They need you, your presence, to be there, your love!” - Pope Francis

Happy Father's Day to all fathers and those who fulfill the role of fathers! 🌻

WORLD REFUGEE DAY: Since our arrival in the U.S. in 1840, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur have answered the call to serve in the most abandoned places. We stand with people living in poverty, especially women and children, to create a more just and compassionate world.

Listen as Sister Mary Alice McCabe, SNDdeN describes some of the asylum seekers she's met. https://snddeneastwest.org/our-work/jpic/advocating-for-migrants-and-refugees/

JUNETEENTH: After President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in January 1863, it was another 2 1/2 years before enslaved people in Texas learned they were free.

Today, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur honor that struggle as they continue to work toward justice and dignity for all. https://snddeneastwest.org/our-work/jpic/

🌳 Laudato Sí challenges us to preserve and protect our natural environment—in this way, we honor our good God and demonstrate care for all humanity. Very soon, eight wonderful women will embark on a journey of learning about their role in caring for God's creation at our inaugural Laudato Seeds of Change immersion program.

To ensure they go home to their communities empowered to be change makers, consider making a gift to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. We thank you in advance for helping us provide this unique experience centered on education and action! https://snddeneastwest.org/donate/

💛 Celebration Saturday: Our Saturday series highlights our 2026 Jubilarians -- women who have spent a lifetime in faithful service to our good God.

Today, we recognize Sister Sheila Palmer, a 70-year Jubilarian. https://bit.ly/4ehdmEg

Sister Sheila has an unusual vocation story! She was born in Jamaica and answered her call to religious life at 16, entering the Franciscan Missionary Sisters. She taught high school English in Jamaica for 32 years before making the difficult decision to follow her family to the United States.

Seeking a teaching congregation that valued diversity, she joined the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She taught in Connecticut and Massachusetts, where she helped integrate Black students. She later helped found the Notre Dame Education Center and taught English to students from more than 50 countries. At her 70th Jubilee in 2026, Sister Sheila remains grateful for her vocation.
