Meet the SchoolForce Ambassadors Class of 2026.

24 current and former BRSSD students — from , , , and Ralston — selected through an application and interview process to serve as leaders, advocates, and volunteers for SchoolForce this year.

The SchoolForce Ambassadors Program was built on a simple idea: the students who benefited from BRSSD’s programs are exactly the right people to help grow them. As founder Ying Gonikman put it: “We want to give current and former BRSSD students opportunities to gain meaningful leadership and nonprofit experience while taking an active role in supporting their schools and community.”

Ambassadors plan community outreach, support SchoolForce events, and bring skills and perspectives no one else can — because they lived the experience.

Most California districts lost ground in reading over the last decade. BRSSD gained.

+0.5 grade levels ahead — while peer districts around us fell back.

Reading specialists. Librarians. The classroom support that makes deep literacy possible. funds these programs every year so your BRSSD student doesn’t have to go without.

That’s the difference. 📌

One question about how SchoolForce donations were being used. That was Eric Bookstein’s entry point. That was seven years ago.

Eric is VP Strategy at Visa — and he puts that same financial expertise to work as SchoolForce Treasurer. What started as a simple question turned into his first Board role as Financial Secretary, and he’s never looked back. Talking with parents, helping teachers get innovation grant funding, and seeing his own kids at and Ralston benefit from programs is what keeps him coming back.

This is what SchoolForce is built on — people who show up and bring their best. Tag someone who should know more. 👇

While California’s math scores dropped over the past decade, BRSSD students gained over a grade level. noticed. We’re not surprised.

New data from Stanford researchers published today shows 70% of school districts in the United States lost ground in math between 2015 and 2025. California’s average dropped 0.8 grade levels. BRSSD gained 3.0.

This doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when a community decides public education is worth showing up for — with dedicated specialists, fully funded programs from TK through 8th grade, and the parents and donors who fill the gap the state won’t.

Save this for the next time someone asks why community-funded education like matters. 📌

Meet Ying Gonikman — 7 years on the SchoolForce board, former president, and still one of our biggest champions for BRSSD students. 🙌

We asked Ying why she keeps coming back. Her answer?

“I first got involved with SchoolForce when I learned about funding challenges in California schools, and I wanted my children, along with all students, to get the most out of their educational journey. Knowing that our kids spend most of their day at school, investing in their schools is one of the most direct and effective ways to support their growth and opportunities.”

That’s what this community is made of.

Most elementary schools in our area don’t have a dedicated science specialist for 4th and 5th graders. BRSSD does — and it makes a real difference. As Ching-Pei Hu, BRSSD Assistant Superintendent, shared on the Science in BRSSD podcast: “Our kids get a much more focused science instruction, similar to what other kids get once they hit middle school.”

That’s the SchoolForce effect. Your support funds the specialists that most districts can’t offer — giving BRSSD students a head start that lasts.
