We stand with the hardworking members of ILWU Local 23 and urge the Port of Tacoma to reject Husky Terminal’s automation and AI proposal.
This isn’t just about “technology upgrades”—it’s about real families, real paychecks, and a real community that depends on these jobs. Longshore workers aren’t just employees; they are the backbone of our local economy. When you replace skilled workers with machines, you’re not creating progress—you’re stripping stability from hundreds of households and weakening the very community that keeps this port running.
Husky Terminal benefits from publicly owned land and taxpayer-backed infrastructure. That comes with a responsibility to invest in people, not replace them. Approving this request would mean using public resources to eliminate family-wage jobs and erode union labor that has supported generations.
Automation may boost profits for a corporation, but it comes at a cost we all pay—lost jobs, reduced economic circulation, and a hit to local businesses that rely on these workers.
We’re not against progress—but progress that leaves working families behind isn’t progress at all.
Reject this proposal. Protect local jobs. Stand with the longshore workers who have built and sustained this port.
Sign the petition below and let your voice be heard - an injury to one is an injury to all.
