Dolly Parton wrote “9 to 5” more than 45 years ago, and working people have been singing along ever since.

But there’s a part of Dolly’s story that doesn’t get talked about nearly as much.

She carried a union card.

Dolly joined the American Federation of Musicians Local 257 in Nashville in 1967. And as her career went from local stages to sold-out arenas, movies, awards and becoming one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world, she kept it.

For 58 years.

And it wasn’t just a card in her wallet. Dolly worked under union contracts and made sure the musicians who helped make her music were covered by them, too.

She became an icon. But she never stopped being a working musician.

Maybe that’s why “9 to 5” hit the way it did. She understood something working people have always known: the boss has the power when you stand alone. When you stand together, you’ve got some power, too.

9 to 5. Union for life.

140th Labor Day Celebration coming September 4-7! We'll be participating in the parade on the 7th and then sharing a meal with coworkers afterward. The Kids love the parade. We had 2 floats last year, with minimal help. We'd love to have 2 floats again this year so more kids can throw some candy 🍬! But we need VOLUNTEERS! PLEASE REACH OUT TO TRICIA WALLERSTEDT to help with the decorations. Stronger Together!
