Business Manager Andrew Angel spoke before the Vanderburgh County Commissioners this morning regarding RWE’s proposed large-scale battery energy storage project in Vanderburgh County.

His message was simple: We support responsible development and investment in our community — but local workers deserve a fair opportunity to build these projects.

We’ve seen what can happen on major energy projects when conversations about local workforce happen before approvals are granted, but things change once those approvals are secured. That’s why we’re asking for commitments on the front end.

We aren’t trying to stop progress. We want to build it.

If a major project is coming to our community, the skilled men and women who live and work here should have the opportunity to be part of building it.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

Like every person lost leaving families in grief; like courageous survivors returned to family and friends; like a grateful society who praised selfless and brave first responders; like all tradespeople who worked to remove every trace of evil acts and then rebuilt with hope, resilience, and skill... LiUNA members and Building Trades Sisters and Brothers were there... and united we remained years after fighting for every person whose health was and remains affected by the poisonous debris...

To come back stronger after 9/11 took a united effort by every person and organization involved; So today, like every anniversary of 9/11 we honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, the courage of those who responded and the trained, safe and skilled workforce who rebuilt.

We still remember. We always will.
