Amendment 3 has far greater costs to Floridians than our state can afford. Slashing property taxes would impact the ability of water management districts to manage and protect our water resources, including flood control and water supply. It would also hit local government budgets, decimating their ability to fund water quality projects, conserve lands, and maintain parks, trials, and boat launches.

About one-third of the collective budget for Florida’s five water management districts comes from property taxes. Water Management Districts property tax revenues were significantly rolled-back by Governor Scott, a policy that has continued under Governor DeSantis. Central and North Florida’s waters are already suffering from grossly insufficient environmental funding. Amendment 3 puts Florida’s water supply and flood protections at even greater risk.

This is an amazing community science project happening right here in the Wekiva basin and all over the country.
Scientists discovered that these tiny creatures can be used ro measure Mercury contamination in a consistent way. Every year groups head out to local waterways and search through the mud, freeze the larvae, then mail them to a central lab.

🌿💧 KNOW WHAT’S BELOW — SAND HILL
Approximately 604 acres of the Sand Hill Scout Reservation are involved in a proposed land-use change.
But what is beneath this land may be just as important as what could eventually be built above it.
Sand Hill contains significant karst geology and the extraordinary Diepolder cave system, associated with the Floridan aquifer.
Before major land-use decisions are made, FLWWA believes the public deserves answers:
🔎 Has the cave and karst system been mapped against the proposed development area?
💧 Has a site-specific hydrogeological study been completed?
🧪 Has baseline groundwater quality been established?
🌧️ Have stormwater and wastewater risks in this karst environment been adequately evaluated?
And perhaps most importantly:
Do we actually know enough about what is below Sand Hill before deciding what can happen above it?
Over the next several days, Florida Land, Water & Wildlife Alliance will begin examining the public record and sharing what we find.
Follow this investigation. Share it. Ask questions.
Because protecting Florida’s water begins with understanding the ground beneath our feet.
