Unicoi County Search and Rescue

Unicoi County Search and Rescue (UCSAR) is a non-profit, volunteer, all hazards Search and Rescue Team headquartered in Unicoi County, Tennessee.

We want to thank Lighthouse Baptist Church for inviting us to be part of such a great community event. It was a pleasure meeting everyone, answering questions about Search and Rescue, and giving kids and families the chance to check out some of our equipment. We appreciate the warm welcome and hope everyone has a fantastic and safe school year!

Last week, members of Unicoi County Search and Rescue were honored to attend the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office grant recognition luncheon celebrating recipients of the Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training (VFEAT) and Rescue Squad Grant programs.

We are incredibly grateful to have been awarded $39,486.00 through the Rescue Squad Grant Program. These funds will allow us to purchase essential equipment that will enhance our response capabilities, improve responder safety, and help us continue providing the highest level of service to the citizens and visitors of Unicoi County.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office and the State of Tennessee for their continued investment in volunteer emergency responders. This funding will have a lasting impact on our team and the community we proudly serve.

This past weekend was a busy one for Unicoi County Search and Rescue, but that didn’t stop us from holding our monthly training. After responding to multiple incidents over the weekend, our members still came together Sunday for rope rescue training. We spent the day practicing ascending, descending, and refining the rope systems and techniques that help prepare us for a variety of rescue situations.

It was another busy weekend for Unicoi County Search and Rescue as our team responded to multiple incidents across the county.

Two of those incidents involved vehicles that became stranded in the Dicks Creek area after hazardous creek crossing conditions made it impossible to continue. Search and Rescue safely assisted 10 individuals during those two responses.

Please join us in congratulating three members of Unicoi County Search & Rescue on successfully completing the Swiftwater Rescue I course. Two members completed the course for the first time, while one member successfully recertified. Their dedication to training helps ensure our team remains prepared to respond to water emergencies throughout Unicoi County.

Unicoi County Search & Rescue was honored to attend the East Tennessee Foundation 40th Summit. What a great day connecting with others and being part of such a meaningful event.
