Tomorrow marks a special first: our Spay It Forward clinic through the Colorado Rabbit Care Initiative!

What began as a hope to make essential rabbit care more affordable is becoming a reality—with our first clinic happening October 15 and October 16 at Orchard Veterinary Medical Center.

Behind every appointment is a rabbit who is loved and a family grateful for the opportunity. This milestone is possible because our community came together to help.

A heartfelt thank-you to our donors, veterinary partners, volunteers, and everyone who shared the program or offered encouragement. We’re especially grateful to Orchard Veterinary Medical Center for hosting and providing care for our rabbit families.

🦁 Lions and tigers and bears… oh, mama! 🐰

When Dorothy was transferred to Rocky Mountain House Rabbit Rescue from an outside facility, she arrived very pregnant and just about ready to pop. She wasn’t traveling down the yellow brick road alone—she had three tiny passengers waiting to make their entrance!

Along came Lion, Tiger, and Bear, and Dorothy’s adventure in motherhood began. ❤️

Now 9 weeks old, her little trio is growing up… although apparently nobody has informed them that the milk bar should be closing.

Behind this sweet little family is a community that helps make their care possible. From a safe place to land to the everyday supplies that keep growing rabbits fed and comfortable, your support helps families like Dorothy’s along the way.

We received applications for 37 rabbits through the Colorado Rabbit Care Initiative’s spay and neuter program. The estimated project cost to help all 37 rabbits would be just under $5,000.

The vast majority of applicants reported that they have been unable to pursue these surgeries because of the cost. With rabbit spay and neuter procedures typically costing $350–$650, essential care can be out of reach for many families—even when they understand its importance and want to provide it.

We’re excited to share that 5 applicants have been selected to move forward with next week’s clinic!

Applications for rabbits who were not selected will be reviewed again when another clinic becomes available. They have not been forgotten!

Thank you to everyone who has submitted an application for our upcoming Spay and Neuter Clinic! 💜🐰 We appreciate the community’s response and your patience as we bring this opportunity together.

I believe the clinic arrangements are nearly finalized, and two spots remain. I’ll be reviewing applications to prioritize rabbits and families with the greatest need as well as our scheduling. I will be reaching out to selected applicants soon.

If you aren’t selected for this clinic, your application will remain on file. I’ll continue reviewing applications as more clinics become available and reach out as we’re able to offer additional spots.

🐰 Affordable care. Community support. Second chances.

The Colorado Rabbit Care Initiative (CRCI) is helping Colorado families access essential veterinary care for the rabbits they love—and community donations make it possible.

We’re grateful to Orchard Veterinary Medical Center for hosting our upcoming rabbit spay and neuter clinic.

Through CRCI funding, owners will pay $75 for a neuter or $125 for a spay.

🐾 Remember Cookie?

This two-year-old rabbit’s family initially believed she had a UTI, but her symptoms have progressed to persistent vaginal bleeding. Cookie urgently needs a spay to help prevent this becoming a life threatening issue.

Her mom is a military spouse who recently lost her job, and her beloved “Bundad” is an active-duty service member preparing for retirement. Thanks to the kindness of donors and our veterinary partners, Cookie will have the opportunity to receive the care she desperately needs while remaining with the family who loves her.

Meet Moose 🫎—and one of the reasons our current fundraiser is so important!

Moose came to RMHRR from another facility alongside his former mate, Montana. Both rabbits were experiencing behavioral challenges and fighting with each other.

They were transferred to us so our team could work with them to address some of those behaviorial issues to help prepare them for their forever home!

That work takes patience, time, and resources. Our commitment to rabbits like Moose and Montana includes supporting their individual needs and giving them the opportunity to thrive!

This is why our fundraiser matters. It helps fund the everyday care that makes these second chances possible.

We’re wrapping up Day 7 with $0 in sales today and only $100 in sales over the past two days. Our total sales are approximately $1,190, which earns $476 for the rabbits.

We don’t often have an opportunity to receive 40% of every purchase through a fundraiser. We were even given an early start to help maximize sales, but building momentum has been challenging. We need our community’s help to turn this opportunity into meaningful support.

Day 6 update.

We just received another $100 in orders, bringing today’s sales to $100 and our total to $1,100! $440 will go to rabbits just like Aliena. Thank you to everyone who has supported our Seasons of Joy fundraiser!

RMHRR receives 40% of every sale to help fund food, shelter, and veterinary care for the rabbits who depend on us.

The fundraiser ends October 26! Our minimum goal of $7,000 in sales would bring $2,800 to the rescue. Every purchase gets us closer—and we’d love to go beyond that goal!

With just two volunteers signed up to sell, we need our community’s help to keep the momentum going:
