Hail Adventurers!

The first 600 stone pavers for the memorial have arrived in Wisconsin! The pallets of pavers arrived yesterday at Archie Monuments of Watertown, WI (below), where they will be engraved.

Engraving of the stones will begin over the next week in the Archie Monuments shop (see below). Since there are hundreds of stones, each to be engraved, painted black to fill the letters, and then sanded to clean and finish each one, it will take a couple of weeks.

If you want a second stone to dedicate to someone or know someone who has been thinking of getting a stone for themselves or a loved one, now is the chance! Message us here to get details!

Meanwhile, work by Keystone Granite Co. of Elberton, GA, continues on the table, benches, and stone plinth for the eventual placement of Gary's throne. Cutting, carving, etching, and polishing are all being completed. Additionally, another 600+ pavers are being cut for placement in the memorial.

So the quest continues! Stay tuned for our next update!

Hail Adventurers!

Engraving of the stone pavers will begin within a few weeks!

After a two week delay waiting for parts from Germany, the Keystone Granite Co. in Elberton, GA is back in action!

The stone finishing of the memorial is well underway and they have cut over 600 pavers and carved the stone bench supports! Next up is the table pedestal weighing in at 4 tons of Barre granite!

Back in Lake Geneva, the final engineering plans have been out to the three contractors for over two weeks. But, other than, a couple of calls to answer questions, none of the bids are in yet for construction and installation of the memorial.

I myself was just in Madison, WI, to represent Gary's Legacy to the Wisconsin State Historical Society for their, Inspired! The Legacy of Gary Gygax event. We had a great crowd and I got to speak alongside former TSR editor and writer James Lowder and legendary artist, Jeff Butler!

Before that, the Gygax Memorial Fund was awarded the Walworth County Visitor's Bureau's Excellence Award for outstanding service to the Legacy of Gary Gygax, for our Gygax Initiatives and Dragon Days(TM) Fantasy Festival in Lake Geneva!

And on that subject, we are planning our Dragon Days(TM) Fantasy Festival for October 3-4, 2026. This is a fun-filled fantasy festival for families, fantasy fans, cos-players, and gamers alike! This city-wide event celebrates the City of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, as the Birthplace of Dungeons & Dragons®!

Get your advance tickets before September 30th and avoid lines on festival days! Only $15 for one day, $20 for the weekend—a $10 savings! Kids 12 and under are FREE!

The first 300 advance ticket purchases get a free Pencil of Sharpness +2 and a Handy Haversack for carrying the treasures you find during your adventures at Dragon Days(TM): www.dragondays.org

So come out and show your support for the memorial and help us celebrate the legacy of Gary Gygax in the town where Dungeons & Dragons® was born!

Hail Adventurers!

I wasn't expecting to write this so soon but the stone has been quarried--already!

Not having heard from the Rock of Ages quarry in Barre, Vermont, I reached out to our supplier, Archie Monuments of Watertown, Wisconsin, to get an update. The update I received is that the stone was quarried in early April and shipped to Keystone Granite Co. in Elberton, GA, where it is being finished!

Here are some images of the stone after it was quarried but still unfinished, straight from the Rock of Ages stone shed in Vermont. Once these rough-cut billets of stone were quarried, they were loaded up and shipped to Georgia, where they are currently being finished.

The stone workers in Georgia are hard at work and have already polished parts of the memorial table, like the table top (which can be seen in the photos on top of a stack of other granite).

Next will be polishing the bench tops, then cutting an polishing the table pedestal and bench supports, and engraving the edges of the table and bench tops with a repeating polyhedral dice pattern. Finally, the 1,279 stone pavers will be cut.

Then the whole lot gets shipped to Wisconsin for the final engraving of the stone pavers and installation of the memorial!

The next step for us is to send out confirmation emails to each of you for the wording on your paver. So, stand by in the next two weeks to receive these confirmation emails!

The Gygax Memorial Fund presents our consecration ceremony of the memorial site, on March 18th, 2026. For the occasion, we invited our friends and supporters, Rev. Derek White, The Geek Preacher, and Rev. Jean Mornard, spouse of Michael Mornard, a Gygax family friend, to preside over blessing the site. Attendees were invited to place something down the drill casing for the soil testing, to become a permanent part of the site. Heidi, Alex, Donna, and Gail Gygax were present to observe the ceremony. Each placed something meaningful into the ground.

On February 18th, 1973, Dave Arneson and David Megarry visited Gary Gygax’s house at 330 Center St in Lake Geneva, WI to demonstrate Arneson’s Blackmoor Game. A year later on February 7th, Gary wrote to Dave that D&D would be finished at the printers by the following week and one of the 1st published copies would be in Dave’s hands the week after that. This is pretty close to February 18th, 1974, one year after they played that Blackmoor Game in 1973. So Happy Birthday Dungeons and Dragons!
