📣 Planning for Adult Life (PFAL) is coming to Lakewood!

Join Community Access Unlimited and the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities for an informative evening focused on self-advocacy, self-directed services, and planning for the future.

On Monday, the new officers for CAU’s self-advocacy group, Helping Hands, headed to the State House in Trenton to advocate for a vital 3% cost-of-living adjustment for community-based IDD services.

Wearing their bright blue “Care needs COLA!” t-shirts, the team joined more than 250 advocates and self-advocates from the New Jersey Association of Community Providers New Jersey Association of Community Providers - NJACP and the Alliance for the Betterment of Citizens with Disabilities The Alliance for the Betterment of Citizens with Disabilities to attend a NJ Senate Committee hearing.

It was an inspiring day of collective action, highlighting the importance of standing together to ensure sustainable support for our community.

Community Access Unlimited is now recruiting for our Culinary Hospitality Paid Training Program: an 8-week opportunity designed to help participants build real-world culinary skills and prepare for careers in food service, catering, and hospitality.

Participants will:
✅ Learn hands-on cooking techniques and culinary terminology
✅ Gain workplace readiness and kitchen etiquette skills
✅ Earn a ServSafe Certification
✅ Prepare for entry-level employment opportunities in the culinary field

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage and commitment continue to protect the freedoms we experience every day, and we recognize the families, loved ones, and communities who carry their legacy forward.

♿ ♿ Mobility Awareness Month is about accessibility! ♿ ♿

Being able to move through your day without barriers shouldn’t be something people have to work around or plan their life around.

At CAU, that means thinking about how people actually experience spaces, what makes things harder than they need to be, and what it takes to fix it. The goal is simple, make it easier for people to show up, get where they need to go, and be part of their community without extra obstacles.

🌍 Global Accessibility Awareness Day is a good moment to take a closer look at the spaces we move through every day.

A lot of what we call “normal” just works for some people and not for others. That gap is where people get left out.

Think about things like a website that doesn’t work with screen readers, an event without captions or ASL interpretation, a building with stairs but no ramp, or forms that are hard to understand or navigate.

Accessibility should be the baseline. If someone has to ask for access, something was likely missed!

Take a look at the spaces you’re part of, what could be easier for someone else?
