A guest-choice food pantry whose mission is to provide food security and access to community resources that stabilize lives.

Food for Greater Elgin is the largest pantry in Kane County and is one of the three largest food pantries in Northern Illinois Food Bank's 13-county service area.

We use a guest choice distribution model which offers guests a choice of food items rather than pre-bagged groceries. Guests, equipped with grocery carts, choose from a variety of product categories including shelf-stable, frozen meat, produce, and dairy, and they may shop once a week during one of five weekly food distributions, including evening shifts. Volunteers assist guests while they shop.

For every $1 donated to Food for Greater Elgin, approximately $8 worth of food can be purchased. Northern Illinois Food Bank is our main food resource, and we also "re-harvest" additional products at area grocery stores and warehouses.

🚼It's time for 6th annual diaper drive!

At our pantry, we see just how much families need diapers and wipes and how difficult they can be to afford.

No family should have to go without basic necessities for their children, and at Food for Greater Elgin, we do what we can to help bridge the gap for families struggling to afford their children's basic needs. 🍼

Between October 21st and October 30th, stop by any of the participating locations to donate diapers and wipes in support of local food pantries!

🌐Scan the QR code above for a list of preferred brands and sizes.

Food insecurity isn't always visible, and there are many misconceptions about who experiences it.

Many people who rely on food assistance are working, raising families, attending school, or living on fixed incomes.

This Hunger Action Month, let's replace myths with facts and reduce the stigma surrounding food insecurity.

Food for Greater Elgin can't operate without the dedication and love that stems from our hundreds of volunteers.

This month, we want to celebrate our stellar Champion of the Month, Almaquio, who consistently demonstrates the dependability and dedication that make the FFGE volunteers so great.

Almaquio is always willing to step in and help any area that needs assistance with setting up, ensuring warehouse is ready for distribution.

He is well known for his cheerful spirit and positive attitude and when our greeter team is short-staffed, he is ready to jump in to call guest numbers and organize lines.

Thank you, Almaquio, for your generous spirit and commitment to our community. 🫶🍎
