Day 1 was a success!! We had so many people come to our hotdog and brat stand and bake sale!  thank you to everybody who helped out and everybody who came out to support us!!🩵🩵

It is Brat and Hotdog Season! 🌭🌭Come on out this weekend and we will serve up some hotdogs brats right off the grill made by Von Hanson’s Meats! We will also be selling baked goods🧁🍰

Come out for fun and to support a great cause!!

Executive functioning. This complicated skill continues to impede autistic adults from achieving independent living.

We need executive functioning for everything that we do . I was reminded this morning that there are so many basic activities that we don’t think about when we consider our autistic adult children in their plight for independent living .

Without going into great detail, my reminder this morning involved a toilet, a plunger, and the problem-solving required to solve this issue.  I realized that if I was not here to fix this very large problem, I don’t know that my son could have figured out how to solve the problem. I imagined what would happen if said problem was not addressed and continued indefinitely .

This is one of an unlimited number of fears that we face as parents .  We are reminded daily of the dire need to create appropriate housing and allow enough independence for our adult children to live in the least restrictive environment.

But…. The executive functioning issues continue to necessitate supervision for our adult kids.  They deserve to live independently, but we must ensure that appropriate housing with appropriate supervision, allows them to thrive . . 🩵🩵🩵

A few misunderstood seconds can change a police encounter. Alex Mann has spent more than seven years trying to make those moments safer.

Alex is autistic and has now visited 539 police departments across five states, sharing his lived experience directly with officers. He explains that avoiding eye contact, stimming, needing longer to respond, or becoming overwhelmed by lights, noise and several people approaching at once can sometimes be mistaken for defiance or suspicious behavior.

His advice is practical: slow down, speak calmly, allow processing time, consider sensory needs and remember that every autistic person is different. Alex’s own disability disclosure card even helped inspire Pennsylvania State Police to develop cards that people can print or save to their phones.

His message to officers is simple: “Be kind. Be patient.”

One autistic voice. 539 departments. A mission that could help someone be understood when it matters most. ❤️

We are excited to announce that we are in the final stages of planning our Parent-To-Parent Support Group that will be facilitated by a licensed therapist! The first group will be in September in the Twin Cities area.

We have created a survey to help us to understand and address the needs of the parents or caregivers/ guardians of Autistic adults.

Today was fantastic!! 🩵🩵. It was the perfect day to spend in an air-conditioned lodge, eating ice cream with friends!! We had a great turnout and I will post some pictures here. 🩵🩵
