At the Gwinnett Chamber Foundation (GCF), our mission is clear: Train & Certify. Mentor. Give Back. And giving back means investing in the talent becoming tomorrow’s workforce, entrepreneurs and employers of choice.

Through our partnership with Discovery High School, GCF has welcomed the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team (GSLT) into our family as mentees. This relationship is a key part of our strategy—connecting young leaders to the local business community while establishing the talent pipeline our growing enterprises need to thrive.

Last Friday, we gave these young leaders the opportunity to present their GSLT Legacy Leadership Projects, which would create a scholarship for these high-achieving students who may face financial barriers to college. They came prepared to tell their story, state the economic case and boldly make their ask.

Cultivating sustainable businesses also means cultivating the talented people who will one day lead them, work in them and build the next ones.

Three days. Real business. Real application. Real impact. The Gwinnett Chamber Foundation (GCF) Small Business Impact Institute (SBII) joined Lawrenceville Coca-Cola UNITED for an immersive Mentor-Protégé experience covering operations, SOPs, financial management, budgeting, forecasting, procurement, employee retention and how to create a culture where employees want to come to work and give 100%.

Then we watched those lessons come to life: after hearing how Coca-Cola UNITED embraced a formerly homeless young employee who has saved nearly $9,000, one of our cohort members joined the community of empowerment surrounding her and donated a car so she can safely get to work—now THAT is corporate social responsibility in action, and this is why GCF partners with the best and brightest in the marketplace to help our small businesses grow, scale and become employers of choice.

Week 12 brought the Gwinnett Chamber Foundation’s Small Business Impact Institute to Business Pitch Day!

Owners told the story of where their businesses can go in the next three years—and showed how the capital they seek could become new contracts, stronger margins, more capacity and jobs. Their pitches put weeks of work on cash flow, credit and procurement readiness into practice.

Thank you to our judges — Jewel Williams of LISC, CPA Andrew Pourchier of RYBD, Baoyi Chi of Maynard Nexsen, and Paul “Pablo” Adamson of Amazon — for the candid feedback and expertise they shared with each business.

Five small businesses stepped up to pitch. More than 100 people came out to support them. And under perfect evening skies at Lanier Islands, the Gwinnett Chamber Foundation’s Rock the Range fundraiser, presented by Georgia Power, showed what can happen when a community gets behind businesses ready for their next level.

The evening gave attendees plenty of ways to take part. Professional golf coaches offered instruction, and many guests played a round of six on Georgia’s only night golf course at Legacy Golf Course, Lanier Islands. Students from Discovery High School volunteered alongside today’s business professionals, representing the talent that will shape Gwinnett’s future.
