Dubuque Independent League Baseball

League with 14, 12, 10 and 8 year old teams in 23 organizations. In 1969 the league expanded to seven teams and in 1970 to eight teams.

Organized in 1968 by Vern Haberkorn, six 14 year old teams played in the league inaugural season. In 1971 the league grew to 12 teams playing their games at Weirich Field, which is property of Holy Ghost Parish. 1974 saw the start of the 12 year old division, with each 12 year old team affiliated with a 14 year old team. In 1985 the 10 year old division was initiated and in 1998 the eight year old division was initiated. The league has continued to this day with 15 franchises with a 14 year old, 12 year old, 10 year old and 8 year old team associated with each franchise. There are in excess of 700 boys participating in the league under this system. Teams did not have uniforms during the early years but some teams began getting jerseys after the first year. 1981 was the first year full uniform first appeared and by the end of the 1982 season all teams had full uniforms. The Independent League Hall of Fame was started in 1974. Players and coaches are voted into the Hall of Fame based on their performance and are honored and inducted at the Annual Independent League Banquet. The rich heritage and prestige enjoyed by the Dubuque Independent League is a reflection on the efforts and dedication of the many past and present managers, coaches and players who can be proud of their accomplishments in the league.

A huge shoutout to our DILB Board members who volunteered their Saturday morning to help clean and maintain our portable pitching mounds and bases!

What many people may not realize is that these pieces of equipment represent tens of thousands of dollars in investments made by our league to provide the best possible playing experience for our kids.

With portable pitching mounds costing thousands of dollars apiece, proper cleaning, maintenance, and storage are essential to protecting that investment and extending the life of our equipment.

Taking care of what we already have means less money spent replacing equipment and more money available to improve our facilities and the overall experience for our players.

It’s the behind-the-scenes work like this that often goes unnoticed, but makes a tremendous difference in keeping our league running strong.

Congratulations to all of our players for representing their teams and the league with outstanding effort, sportsmanship, and competitive baseball. These games are a celebration of the hard work these players have put in all season, and they did not disappoint.

A huge thank you goes out to our coaches, umpires, volunteers, sponsors, families, and fans who helped make All-Star Week another tremendous success. Your support is what makes DILB such a special place for our players.

What an incredible night at the ballpark!

First and foremost, thank you to all of the players who participated. You represented your teams and the league with outstanding sportsmanship, effort, and excitement. You all put on an amazing show!

A huge thank you goes out to our volunteers. This event simply doesn’t happen without you. We appreciate every one of you who gave your time to make tonight special.

We’d also like to extend a sincere thank you to our Home Run Derby sponsor, District 20 Supply Co., for helping make this event possible. Your support of Dubuque Independent League Baseball and our players is greatly appreciated!

And what a finish to the A League Derby! The competition was so close that it took three rounds of Blast Off before Tyler Zeal was able to claim the championship. What an incredible way to end the evening!

Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on these young athletes. The energy from the crowd made for a memorable night, and we’re proud to be part of a community that supports youth baseball the way DILB does.
