Service Dogs, Inc. Saving Dogs. Changing Lives. Since 1988.

Since 1988, we've changed how Service Dogs are trained - we use shelter dogs instead of breeding, we train with love and respect instead of force, and we provide the dogs completely free of charge to our clients.

“I love how these dogs are not only testing us every day, but also teaching us the importance of routine, mental stimulation and other basic necessities of life,” Kyle says. On our Animal Care team, those necessities are the work: meeting our dogs’ daily needs with patience and consistency. That care gives our trainers a strong foundation to build on as we prepare dogs for service. Kyle is learning from the dogs along the way, and he has kind words for our team, too: “I guess my team here is pretty cool too.” 🐕‍🦺

Brianna says, “Dogs have always been a major part of my life. I live for my dogs, and after being diagnosed with PTSD in college, my dogs lived for me. When it came to deciding what I wanted to do with my life I knew I wanted to make a difference helping shelter dogs and people alike, giving dogs a purpose in helping others in need.”

On our Animal Care team, Brianna helps us prepare our dogs for exactly that purpose: supporting people who need them.

By learning to stay focused, even around exciting distractions, our dogs build the patience and reliability their future partners will depend on. As you can see, they did a fantastic job staying focused in the mall! ✨

Every Service Dog partnership begins with the dog’s health and well-being. Gabi’s work on our Animal Care team helps us provide the steady care our dogs need to thrive.

Gabi describes her work and goal this way: “I want to become a dog trainer, SDI helps me work on getting to that goal because our trainers teach me different techniques to work on with our dogs in the training program. I can then implement working on new methods and tricks with our dogs on my weekend shifts in the kennels and also practice with my personal dog at home!”

Who said shelter dogs can’t become heroes? We’ve been doing it since 1988 🐕‍🦺

“It’s so fulfilling to work at SDI and witness the incredible, life-changing difference these dogs make for people every day,” Jolie says. As a member of the Animal Care team, she keeps our dogs healthy, comfortable, and ready for training. Through her daily care and attention, Jolie helps create the strong foundation each dog needs to learn, grow, and prepare for a future as a Service Dog.

Following treatment for a benign brain tumor, Bruce has lived with right-side weakness and walking challenges for nearly 40 years. After his first SDI Dog, Jax, passed away, we matched him with Groove, a smart shepherd/husky mix from Harris County Pets. 🐕

Groove makes Bruce’s daily life easier by making sure he’s stable, carrying and picking up items for him, and opening and closing doors. Follow for more stories like Bruce and Groove’s! 🧡
