NovaStar Rescue To educate, advocate, rescue and rehabilitate. NovaStar Rescue is a small nonprofit rescue located in Dover Arkansas. This is our purpose and mission.

Our main focus is to advocate , educate, rescue and rehabilitate Bully Breeds with a special emphasis on the pitbull. We believe Pitties are the most loyal yet most misunderstood dogs. Whether they come from off the streets or out of the shelters, every Pittie deserves a chance at a good home where they will be loved and cherished as a family member.

So many good guesses… and not a single person guessed BOTH breeds correctly! 👀

Mrs. Jumbo is 51% French Bulldog and 49% Beagle! 🧬🐾

Almost a perfect half-and-half mix!

We were surprised too! We had the Beagle part pegged, but NONE of us saw French Bulldog coming! 😂 Those floppy ears were keeping a secret!

It just goes to show that even our best breed guesses can be way off. Mrs. Jumbo said, “Y’all don’t know me!” 💅😂

This was SO much fun, and we’d love to do it again! DNA tests aren’t in our rescue budget, but if anyone wants to donate a doggy DNA test for a future round of “Guess the Breed,” we’d gladly put it to use! 💕

🥁🥁 GUESS THE BREED! 🥁🥁

Do y’all remember this little girl we picked up from the Morrilton area a couple of weeks ago after the person who had her threatened to dump her in a field?

Meet Mrs. Jumbo! 🐘💕
(Dumbos momma because she has elephant ears)

When we picked her up, we were surprised to discover she was approximately SEVEN MONTHS OLD and weighed only 13 pounds! We felt pretty certain there was some Beagle in there, but that left plenty of room for debate. 😂

Y’all had lots of guesses, and quite a few people were convinced she had Weimaraner in her!

Well… we happened to have a DNA test that one of our friends had sent us just for fun. We’d been saving it for the right dog, and who better than this unique little girl?! 🧬

The results are officially IN! 👀

But before we spill the beans, we want to hear your best guesses!

She’s a mix of TWO breeds. What do you think they are?

We want to introduce you to a very special boy today. His name is Sampson. Not because he is big and strong and brave, because hes not. Yet.... But another meaning for Sampson is sun or bright! And that's what Sampson is going to be one day soon, a big bright shining Star! ✨

When we took Sampson in he was sooooo scared, but in spite of his fear he wanted love so bad. He would crouch and crawl toward you, but then fear would take over and he would back off again. ️All the time his tail was going as fast as it could go.

Sampson has come a very long way and now willingly accepts love and petting if you go slow with him. He is still shy and sudden movements and loud noises still scare him but we see the real Sampson in there and we know he is destined for great things!!

I have included the writeup from Julie, our photo person extraordinaire! All pics and sweet bios are her work! Julie has been with us for almost 5 years and we don't know what we would do without her!! ❤️

🎃 🎃 Sampson ( male ) 🎃 🎃

Sampson is the sweetest, most gentle dog that I have met in a long time. He didn't want to go play and adventure, he didn't want to chase after toys. He does want to mesh bodies with you though, and if it were his choice, it would happen VERY SLOWLY! He started out with putting his head in my lap, then 1 front foot, followed by the other. And it took longer for his back feet to follow than it takes cement to dry. But once he finally gets on your lap, he just melts onto your chest. He sat on top of me for a while, and I got the sweetest, most gentle kisses ive ever received. He walks on leash, but does need some encouragment at times, as he will pancake when he's scared. Loud noises, fast movements, etc., scare the daylights out of him. I don't even want to know what his past was like 🥺 he will hit the ground instantly if you overhand throw a toy. You can pull him out of his scared zone rather quickly, but everytime he turned around, something else would spook him a little. He does absolutely love meeting other dogs though! And loves everyone he meets! He would rather come get love from you, than eat his lunch. He knows the food will be there later... but you might not be. And he isn't about to risk wasting the time he has with you, on eating some food. 💙

We don't know Sampson's past but we know his future is bright!!

Mornings at the rescue are busy busy times! Cleaning feeding & medicating 140 pups takes a minute! These guys have been cleaned up and fed and they're happy just chilling now!

We would love some volunteers. If you are interested, please just show up any day between 9 and 330.

Good morning and Happy Sunday from Muffin! 🤍🐾

Our little guy turned 7 WEEKS OLD on Friday and received his second vaccines! 💉🥹

One step closer to being able to venture outside his little condo and experience more of the world!

He’s now pushing 800 grams (almost 2 pounds!) and growing like an absolute w**d!

And y’all, the PERSONALITY this little pup is developing! 😂 He is spunky, playful, full of mischief, and has a gigantic personality stuffed into that tiny little body. His favorite toy in the entire world right now is a dang floppy bird, and watching him play with it is about the cutest thing you’ve ever seen! 😂🐦 (Videos in the comments!)

Since the day Muffin came to us at just a few hours old, he has had a little stuffed bear by his side. When he was just a fragile 98 gram newborn, that bear was his snuggle buddy. He has cuddled up next to it, slept with it, and loved on it from the very beginning.

From a teeny tiny baby who was barely as big as the stuffy’s arm to this spunky, nearly two pound little puppy sitting next to it… the transformation is incredible.

Even when we’re closed to intake, we have some exceptional fosters who help us when we simply can’t take another dog at the rescue. ❤️

We want to introduce y’all to Honey! 🍯

One of our girls received a call about a mama dog found underneath a house with her babies. She had given birth to four puppies, but by the time they were found, only one was still alive. Mama was in pretty poor condition herself.

We couldn’t say yes until we had a foster in place, and one of our very, VERY favorite fosters stepped up to take mama and her surviving baby.

Then Honey arrived, and imagine our surprise when this absolutely adorable Basset mix stepped out of the car. Are you kidding me?! Those long ears, turned-out feet, and long, flowing hair! 😍

The very next day, we received two messages almost simultaneously.

One said, “I’m really worried about Honey. She has so much milk that she’s engorged.”

The other said, “Please help. We need a nursing mama.” Six newborn puppies had been found in a box at the end of someone’s driveway.

We called Honey’s foster and asked if she would be willing to take four of those babies. With Honey’s own little one, that would give her five puppies to nurse. We couldn’t commit her to all seven, but we felt comfortable taking four.

Her foster said yes, and sweet Honey welcomed those babies right in. After losing three of her own, she now had four more little ones to snuggle and care for. ❤️

This sweet little family is doing wonderfully, and we are so grateful to the foster who made it possible to say yes TWICE.

FIVE DOLLAR FRIDAY is here!! And our need is a BIG one. We have got to get this bill paid down. Our other vets are mostly paid up but Dr Parker is our #1 vet and we need to get this bill down ASAP!!

You can call and pay directly to Dr Parker's office. Please help us get this bill paid.

Like all rescues today, we are struggling. But we cannot rescue without our vets!

We hope everyone will also take advantage of this awesome weather and come out and see us this weekend. Take a dog out for Doggy Day Out or just come love on some pups!!

One of our staff was volunteering at a food bank this morning and found this tiny kitten. He has some upper respiratory stuff going on and antibiotics have been started, along with flea meds and worming.

He is the absolute sweetest little cat and just wanted to snuggle in Julie's arms and take a nap! We have named him Dennis!
